South of border, Romney's Mexican roots run deep
Seattle Times ^

Posted on 07/24/2011 10:31:38 PM PDT by Borough Park

Three dozen of Mitt Romney's relatives live here in a narrow river valley at the foot of the western Sierra Madre, surrounded by peach groves, apple orchards and some of the baddest, most fearsome drug gangsters and kidnappers in all of northern Mexico.

Like Mitt, the Mexican Romneys are descendants of Miles Park Romney, who came to the Chihuahua desert in 1885 seeking refuge from U.S. anti-polygamy laws. He had four wives and 30 children, and on the rocky banks of the Piedras Verdes River, he and his fellow Mormon pioneers carved out a prosperous settlement beyond the reach of U.S. federal marshals. He was Mitt's great-grandfather.

Gaskell Romney, Mitt's grandfather, settled in Mexico as well, and Mitt's father, George Romney, was born in nearby Colonia Dublan — raising the possibility of a 2012 presidential race between two contenders whose fathers were born outside the United States.

Could some of Mitt’s cousins be gun runners or drug runners?

The media/DNC will have a field day with this if we are unlucky enough to have him as the nominee. They’ll paint him as Warren Jeffs meets David Koresh, with some Snidely Whiplash and Thurston Howell III mixed in for good effect.

Romney comes from a very freakish, mysterious, and much wilder world, than the public realizes, his world is made up of people that know how to keep secrets, and are unrestrained by conventionality and normalcy, even decency and truth.

Yet he appears so normal on the surface, except for those odd twitches that we call social awkwardness and label as having a tone deaf ear.

Romney could have no ties to Mexico whatsoever and he would still be an open borders dope.

Romney is also a distant cousin of Jon Huntsman. They’re both part of the Pratt-Romney family and are descended from Parley Pratt, one of the twelve original LDS “Apostles.”

It was brought up by several that I remember. 1967 or 1968 was over forty years ago but US News & World Report and several columnists like James J. Kilpatrick and M. Stanton Evans may have been where I read about George Romney’s birthplace in Mexico.

I am no fan of Gov. Romney, but how come we know all this about him, but NOTHING about the background of the current occupant of the White House?

I don’t recall that being brought up.

It was cussed and discussed at the time. It was an interesting tidbit of no great import.

It is hard to remember what was brought up during George Romney’s run because it ended so early and his brainwashed comment dominated his demise.

I don’t think his campaign had reached that level of scrutiny yet, but he faded pretty early and pretty fast.
