Tea Party group slams Boehner, McConnell
The Hill, Washington DC ^ | 2011-07-19 | Alicia M. Cohn

A large umbrella group for Tea Party activists targeted Republican leaders Tuesday for what they called caving in on the deficit talks.

The Tea Party Nation put House Speaker John Boehner (R-Ohio) and Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-Ky.) on notice "for betraying the movement that put Republicans in charge of the lower chamber last year."

In a press release, Tea Party Nation founder Judson Phillips drew a hard line for the Tea Party position. Phillips warned that his organization is on the lookout for Republicans voting to give away "more borrowing authority to President Obama" without also ensuring spending cuts, entitlement reform, passage of a balanced-budget amendment and defunding programs such as Planned Parenthood and the healthcare reform law.

"Voting for the 'Cut, Cap and Balance' plan won't save you from the Tea Party's wrath if you ultimately vote for a cheap giveaway of more debt to Obama, as McConnell and Boehner are planning," Phillips said.

Calling Boehner and McConnell "RINOs" (Republicans in Name Only), Phillips warned that the Tea Party would not stand behind them in their next election if they compromised in order to reach a debt ceiling agreement. Tea Party Nation, which holds an annual Tea Party convention that boasted former Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin as a speaker last year, plans to turn its influence toward "hunting RINOs and defeating Democrats" in 2012.

Are these the fools which gave cover to one NY RAT to screw up that special election and allow another RAT to scurry into the Congress?

Settle down.

The Boehner offer was for REVENUE INCREASE. It was the same sort of game playing done by spending in the past. It is revenue increases PRESUMED to result from GDP growth. Not from changes in tax rates or any other sort of increase in tax application. It was PRESUMED increase in revenues from economic growth. This is entirely legit and almost worked.

The Dem hard core types pounded Obama last night so he moved the goal posts today.

That’s why Boehner left. Boehner’s increased revenue was from assumed economic growth - i.e. a rising tide lifts all boats.

I could believe that if I didn’t know better. But I’ll lay off Boehner and take your word for it that the new revenues are what you say.

Still, why not tell Obama and the LSM that cut, cap, balance is the compromise and the final offer?

In this game the fist one to say ‘my way or the highway’ loses, especially if it is a Republican.

Tea Party Nation. Conmen and Stormfront wannabees.

The group was created by former Shelby County, Tennessee assistant district attorney Judson Phillips in 2009.[3] It runs a social networking site for conservative activists[4] and is best known for organizing the 2010 National Tea Party Convention.

Phillips has advocated rolling back the voting rights of Americans so that only property owners would be allowed to vote.

Tea Party Nation organized the National Tea Party Convention held February 4–6, 2010.[6] Around 600 activists attended the event,[7] and Sarah Palin was featured as the keynote speaker. The event was criticized for its $549 ticket price,[8][9][10][11] as well as the fact that Palin was apparently paid $100,000 USD for her appearance.[12] Palin has said she will donate the fee to unspecified conservative causes.[13]

Several prominent conservative organizations refused to participate in the event due to its for-profit nature. The Tea Party Patriots advised members not to participate in December 2009.[14] Erick Erickson of the conservative blog RedState.com described the convention as “scammy” on January 11.[15] The American Liberty Alliance (ALA), initially a co-sponsor, withdrew its support on January 13.[16] Later in January, Michele Bachmann and Marsha Blackburn cancelled their plans to speak.[17]

A subsequent convention was booked for the following July, postponed until October, and ultimately cancelled. On July 18, 2011 the Venetian Casino Resort filed suit for unpaid bills allegedly totaling $642,144.

The Tea Party needs to think about what they are doing. Republicans are only in control of one house of Congress. The other two are controlled by the Democrats. Let Boehner the Republicans get the best deal they can get for now, then go full tilt to take control of Senate and President. Then with control of all 3 branches, spending and debt can be controlled. If the Tea Party continues to threaten, the Dems may keep control of the Senate and President, and take by the House. Then they will not like what happens with another 4 years of Obama and his minions.

Tea Party Nation founder Judson Phillips

Who, what, where, why?

Zero tolerance for marxists in US Congress.

Simple message, apparently complicated delivery.

Exactly. I imagine the pressure on him was and is hard with all the beltway people telling him to compromise.

I hope the right people will send him a note of thanks and encourage him to stay strong and hold BO’s feet to the fire.

McConnell may have snatched victory from the jaws of defeat by his intervention in what was a noble effort by House Republicans.

To the contrary, McConnell is helping to snatch defeat from the jaws of victory by undermining the House bill.

By offering liberals an alternative to point at he bolsters the message democrats are spinning that the house bill is too radical to warrant serious consideration.

In effect, he and the republicans on the Gang of Six have been helping democrsts by splitting the republican effort. We have republicans negotiating against republicans.

McConnell is a RINO piece of crap. He should have been gone long ago. Just his anti-Second Amendment votes should have sent him home. Now he’s trying to undercut the conservatives who are working to get our nation on sound financial footing.

It’s a darn shame he doesn’t have to run in 2012 so he could be replaced with a conservative.

Oh, my goodness!!! In attempting to be clever in criticizing McConnell, my lame reversal of the term was not intended. Of course, you are correct, and you have said precisely what was intended. Thanks.

Just took a couple of days of pressure and bonehead, decided to ‘see the light’ or was he reading the Tea Leaves come ‘12.

Let his days in office be few, and a REAL CONSERVATIVE LEADER take his place.

Mantra is REFORM, CUT, and NO MORE TAXES. You just can’t cut you have to root out stupid programs eliminate them, REFORM the 45+ years of donor palm greasing that has driven up the cost of each program yearly.

First one on the list, High way beautification via Lady Bird Johnson...TN share is half a Mil a year, multiple that times 50 and it is a hefty chunk of change.

There is a list some where on FR with all the useless programs that can be eliminated, please someone find and post it again.
