Small town tea parties vs. elitist politicians

I was invited to address a July 4th picnic/tea party rally in Shelby, Mich., where we spend our summers. Shelby is a village whose main street is about 150 yards long and contains a post office, drug store, bank, hardware store, bakery, and that's about it. It's American as it can be. Millionaire fruit farmers sit together with mechanics and chat in a bakery that has the best doughnuts I've ever eaten. Since they all dress in jeans and coveralls, you can't tell them apart. The population of this village hovers around 1,900. And Shelby doesn’t have just a tea party, but a very vibrant one. (Hey, by the way, my brother-in-law is an officer of the tea party in Grant, Mich., which has a population of 864! So when I hear liberals scoff at the power and national growth of the tea party movement, I understand and enjoy their fear.)

Local tea parties may not have the sophistication of the National Parties in US Government, but they do have grit, heart, and spirit. They have a place in politics that will be written about in history books. . . particularly in 2012. Thank God for the tea party movement. . . it has sparked so much!

I see it every time I attend a Tea Party event no matter how urban or rural the crowd.
