There's still a small movement to create a new state from Northern California and Southern Oregon, called "The State of Jefferson", with Yreka, CA as its capital. Apparently it got really hot and heavy about 70 years ago, but then World War II happened, and it was forgotten.

It got revived again a few years back. In fact, traveling up the I-5 around the high plains near Mt. Shasta, there are signs proclaiming "The State of Jefferson".

You would have about the safe Left vs. Right effect if you split the state right down the I5 Corridor, with every thing on the West side hard Left, and East side more conservative.

If this did happen, all the hollywood and other libs would move a lot of business there for the tax breaks. Then they would start voting liberal and like the locusts they are strip the place bare.

I’d be overjoyed to see this happen.

CA went for Bush41 in 1988. He lost CA in 1992 and it’s been lost to GOP candidates ever since.

And then what? Have a bunch of union goons threatening everyone?

You could go blue (conservative) all the way to Oregon along the Nevada border, and two counties in.

port issue is simple ... Long Beach moves to adjoining Orange County (which I wish would happen anyway) and takes its port with it.

But then you get the unions with it. Why not instead acquire Baja California with its new port, Punta Colonet?
(If we're going to have 20 million illegal aliens in the country, Mexico owes at least that much land to the U.S.)

What? No Ventura county in there? I think they belong.

Orange County would do a prisoner exchange — you for ten illegal aliens.

South California would a right to work state, with hard prosecution of any coercive labor practices.

It would have a voucher school system and the teacher’s unions decertified and public employee unions would be illegal. A system of reform schools would be established to teach problem kids what they’ll need to know for a life in prison, and they’ll be removed from the regular classrooms to minimize corruption of the kids that actually respect schooling.

It would have no Foodstamps, no Medicaid, no housing assistance. No unfunded mandates from the Feds.

It would require reapplication for state drivers licenses and ID via certified birth certificate, and would require re-registration of voters accepting only that new ID. It would have no vote-by-mail and no early voting.

It would have no income tax, but only a 4% sales tax applied to all goods and services plus a 1% property tax. It would have a balanced budget requirement, allowing a 10% rainy day fund and no borrowing.

It would pass the equivalent of Prop 187 requiring only emergency medical aid to illegal aliens and immediate deportation by the simple expedient of dropping them off in Tijuana.

Birth certificates would be issued showing Tijuana,MX as the birthplace of illegals whose birth could not be delayed long enough to ship them to Tijuana.

Illegal parents with children born prior to the formation of S. Cal would be transported to Tijuana as a family.

The state would buy up the property immediately inside the Federally owned border strip and establish its own three-layer fence system.

Zoning laws would be enforced and “single family residence” would mean exactly that.

In-state tuition to public schools would require birth in in the US plus 5 years residence in S. Cal.

Abortion would be illegal and carry the same penalty as any other child murder.

There would not be gun control. Every person over the age of 18 would be required to own a handgun and be certified at a firing range every five years.

Thorium lifter power plants would be fast-tracked.

Anything I’ve missed ?

As I see it, this and many other realignments are inevitable given the irreconcilable differences now plainly exposed in the Republic. It is only up to the Powers That Be to determine whether they happen peacefully or violently.
