Harry Reid commends Mitch McConnell’s debt plan

Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid on Wednesday praised Republican Leader Mitch McConnell for putting forth a plan to raise the debt ceiling, calling it a “serious proposal” that he’s continuing to study.

“He spent a great deal of time working on this. I commend him for his thoughtful and unique proposal, something that we have to look at very closely,” Reid, a Nevada Democrat, said on the Senate floor. “I’m heartened by what I read. This is a serious proposal, and I commend the Republican leader for coming forward with it.”

McConnell laid out his plan on Tuesday as he signaled bipartisan negotiations to raise the debt ceiling by the Aug. 2 deadline were beginning to look “increasingly pessimistic.” His proposal, which he referred to as a “last-choice option,” would give President Barack Obama new power to raise the nation’s $14.3 trillion debt ceiling without corresponding spending cuts.

My question is... doesn’t the McConnell surrender have to be voted on?

********************************

Yes, and if passed (which I doubt) it would then be challenged in court as it is not Constitutional.

Apparently Boehner just wants to golf and collect his paycheck. He is exactly like Michael Steele, a plastic, hollow store mannikin meant purely for display.

Well, to that proverbial choir I say ... is there ANY doubt that we must rid ourselves of FINOs and ensure that we don’t nominate one (Romney) in 2012?

He wants to give Obama unfettered power to raise the debt ceiling and some people actually think that’s a master stroke???? I say drug test those people that think that.

“Okay, could those who are saying the McConnell Option is really a politically sly move that us dumb Freepers just don’t understand please, please pay attention here?”

Yeah I caught that as well.

Arguemtns about the cleverness of McConnell aside, the implication of the stupidity of Freepers in general is what makes me question their conservative allegiance.

Where are they today?

I could make some wild speculations about how McConnell endorses the Geithner 14th amendment angle but I’ll wait.

Anybody have any real facts about the McConnell plan????

McConnell devised his rope-a-dope plan to disguise his enthusiastic support for raising the debt ceiling by diverting the blame away from the GOP. In other words, this miserable creep is outright telling conservatives to go to hell and that he fully intends to support the globalists intention to bankrupt our economy.

Show your anger in public by engaging in loud discussions with your wife and/or friends so you can be overheard explaining how Obama and his globalist cadre of czars and fellow Marxists in both parties are transforming our country through regulation and total disregard for our Constitution.

The House needs to take the pressure off of Mcconnell and, instead, put that pressure on Reid and Obama by:

(1) passing an itemized spending bill that decreases federal spending in 2012 by a significant amount

(2) authorizes an increase in the debt ceiling by the same significant amount and

(3) legally requires the Executive branch to prioritize its cash disbursements after August 2 as follows:

(a) Federal Debt Service
(b) Social Security payments, government pension payments
(c) Defense Department salaries and payments on DD contracts.
(d)
...
(v) foreign aid — after a 50% cut
(w) the EPA’s budget — after a 50% cut in headcount
(x) agricultural subsidies, price supports and other free market-evading schemes — after a 50% cut
(y) subsidies for “green energy research” after a 50% cut
(z) payments to the UN and any of its affiliates after a 50% cut

IMHO, that is the only way the GOP can protect itself from losing the Media’s current version of the “rope-a-dope” game.

I understand that the GOP wants to “look like” adults who are trying to negotiate in good faith with the Democrats.

However, since the Democrats have no interest in good-faith negotiating, it is now time for the GOP to “act like” adults and just CUT THE SPENDING!

If the Democrats in the Senate want to explain to their constituents in the next election just WHY, for example, they opposed cutting foreign aid payments to China — just let them.

“Getting their orders from GOP machine.”

Probably right.

I keep underestimating the disdain the establishment (both Republican and Democrat), has for true conservatives.

That explains the gratuitous slams on Freepers, completely aside from a discussion regarding the issue at hand.

Everything you say here is true. This is the difficulty:

The GOP ‘leadership’ is not acting in good faith.

We have been sold. Again.

I listened to some Fox pundits commending this plan because it "gives ownership" of the debt to the liberals. They praise it for being a "political capital" winner. How stupid. The liberal spenders on both sides have ownership of the debt already today and waste way too much time pointing at each other. The republican team doesn't need any more political capital than they already have, and 2012 will prove it. And We the People don't care who takes the blame -- we blame them *all* -- we just want someone to fix it. Removing the checks and limits imposed on the liberals having no honor fixes NOTHING. They will be more than happy to abuse your trust once more and make the problem even larger for the next guy.
