Journalists don’t typically know dog breeds. Dogs get misidentified all the time.

Actually there have been reported bites with both Goldens and labs, but it doesn’t make for good copy, soooooo.....

We’ll just have to disagree on this. Human responsibility is the key. Those who get in the middle of a dog fight can expect to get hurt. It’s not rocket science. Dog aggression and human aggression are NOT the same thing at all, but if one is stupid enough to step into the middle of two dogs facing off, one can expect to get hurt. That’s just basic common sense.

Indeed they do, and there are MANY who can’t tell a Boxer from a Staffordshire Terrier (as just one example!)

Of COURSE there are bites by retrievers; there are millions of them so there ought to be some. I knew a nasty dog-aggressive (and otherwise very assertive) Lab across from me, but whose co-habiting litter-brother was typical dopey careless Lab. The point is there are few - and most importantly, low %.

I made my statement about “dog fights” for a reason, beyond those who try to stop it (why wouldn’t they?). ANY person who incidentally gets between them can be in trouble, whether the dogs just happen to tousle into the person or if he’s between 2 dogs running at each other. That’s not rocket science either.

Yes, we disagree. Genetics is VERY important, despite all the denials these days by dog “lovers” (aaawwwwww kootchi-koo) as opposed to “respecters” like me. Genetics is important for the individual and the whole group. It is NOT just all the human’s fault (except perhaps those who BRED them).

Bring back the stocks and pillory for the animal who did this.
A little public justice would go a long way.
