Bachmann: Who needs executive experience if it means more big government?
HotAir ^ | Monday July 11, 2011 | Allahpundit

Posted on 07/11/2011 7:02:27 PM PDT by Bigtigermike

Politico notes correctly, that this is a great line directed at Romney, an “eh” line directed at Pawlenty, and a dumb line directed at Perry or Palin. There’s no obvious way out of this box: After four years of blaming the failures of Hopenchange in part on The One having never run so much as a lemonade stand, how do Republicans turn around now and take a chance on Bachmann?

Bachmann said executive experience doesn’t matter if it comes with “more of the same big government as usual.”

“This election will be about quite simply, who can lead that restructuring effort,” Bachmann said, referring to turning around the economy and working to repeal the federal health care reform law.

“Executive experience in government is one thing, but not when it comes to a promise of more of the same big government as usual,” she continued.

“Right on!” says Rick Perry, hunkered down in his office and feverishly dialing political operatives in New Hampshire. Bachmann’s other emerging problem is that the more she woos the Huckabee faction in Iowa with ostentatious displays of social conservatism, as she did last week when she signed a marriage pledge so heavy-handed that even Gingrich is shying away from it, the more she risks being pigeonholed as a “Christian candidate” a la Huck three years ago. Case in point: “Nightline” is planning to run a report tonight in which a former patient at the counseling center owned by Bachmann and her husband will claim that he was advised to pray the gay away. Won’t hurt her a bit with social cons, but if it does come down to her and, say, Romney for the nomination, his pitch to undecideds will be that the GOP can’t afford sideshows that take them off-message..

Debatable. If she was aiming at Palin, she missed. T-Paw? don't know. Romney? yeah.

The Titanic showed it don’t matter who’s at the helm. :-)

Huh? They hit an iceberg which was a preventable accident. Yes it does matter who is at the helm, who is in charge, directions given to subordinates and provisions such as lifeboats that are on board prior to a launch.

Poor Captain Smith was the most doomed soul there was that night. His bosses loaded him up with "the perfect accident" and then insisted that he go at top speed. I think the guy who was along on the voyage leaning on him to go fast, fast, fast was named Irsay.

Had to outdo the competition, who had just set a transatlantic record.

This story launches at the same time Bachmann hires two establishment big shots to try and pry money away from big donors.

Many more revelations like this and she won't make it to Iowa. Won't have the money. Her roaming tent revival may have worked in rural Minnesota, but it won't play nationally.

His name was Bruce Ismay; he was the coward who donned a woman's coat and tied a scarf around his head and got into one of the lifeboats when it was supposed to "women and children first". An excellent read is "A Night to Remember" a documentary by Walter Lord. It was made into a movie in 1958.

There are many who believe, including me, that regardless if homosexuality is a genetic or conditioned desire that one does not have to act on such desires. Some churches claim to have had great success in converting homosexuals to Christianity and away from homosexuality.

Despite the publicity that the few transgressors get, most priests and nuns are faithful to their vows of chastity. If heterosexuals can do without, surely homosexuals can, too.

It never hurts to pray for anything that is for good or against sin.

Laura Ingraham has a tape of Pawlenty trying to pander and go MTV and talk with somebody 1/4 his age on their terms, all about Lady Gaga, how he likes THIS song and THAT song, how she is a great singer, etc. etc. Not very presidential, very disgusting if you ask me. So, hence, the hame “Gaga Pawlenty”. This only broke in the last week or so. It was both hiliarious and disappointing (that we have sunk that low).

I posted a couple of days ago that Bachmann was a social conservative who has said enough of the right things to get acceptance into the Tea Party. She is trying to ride the coat tails of that movement to the top chair.

I don't see her as a small government conservative. I see her as someone more than willing to use the government to press her personal social agenda.

What part of "Captain" did you miss? (or did you) When I was a simple Merchant Marine loading chemical barges on the Houston Ship Channel, no officer of the United States Coast Guard dared board my little barge without my permission.

Captain Smith was in complete and utter control of this enormous vessel on the open ocean. It is the Law of the Seas OKSooner, and I am hoping that you already know this. I think know what you are trying to say, and I may be wrong, but it was HIS ship and HIS command. Period.

Her zero status must be starting to hit her polling numbers for her to be grasping at straws like this. Just her saying this proves the WH is too big for her limited abilities. You need even more executive experience to draw government down , it's harder to shrink it than grow it!

700 Club and others have had testimonies of people that came to Christ, married and have had children etc. I praise the Lord for all such conversions, any Christian would.

Praying the “gay way” still sounds strange to me, sounds like they are still listening to lies from the devil. I wonder if Mr Bachmann is open to more when he talks of praying the gay way?

Not speaking in vulgarities, just wonder if there is any Scripture twisting going on? The phrase sounds liberal to me.

The term “gay” itself , is a lot milder than the real term...Homosexuality

I completely agree. I would go further with my comments but it would violate the 11th commandment. The same goes for Gov. Rick Perry, my Governor.

I would give my eye tooth and left knutt to have Rep. Allen West as our next President. U.S. Marine Lt. Col with combat deployment. THAT man has executive experience. (I can dream, can't I?)

Pray away the gay is what ABC is characterizing it as. All it means is that homosexuals have had a spiritual awakening and God took away their homosexual desires.

If your hatred against Bachmann so great that you can't accept the fact that her husband might be helping homosexuals?

If so, sorry excuse for a Christian.

Bachman has run businesses. She also doesn't believe she's the Messiah, who'll heal the world and lower the sea level. She's familiar with the Constitution and her policies are to liberate Americans not run their lives, unlike Obama, who knows better than people themselves. He just said so again yesterday, the people don't understand the debt like professional politicians.

I'm a real cynic, so I skip the hope, faith, and trust and go straight to distrust and loathing. How many times do people have to get fooled? They put someone on their list, get disappointed, take them off the list, put someone else on the list, get disappointed, etc.

Folks should just get used to it--it's a den of thieves. The one or two good eggs here and there are the exception that prove the rule, and even they are probably on someone's payroll, or are petty pilferers, or sexual deviants, or drunks.

I have become much more cynical as the years have gone by. There just aren't that many Mother Teresas out there.

I tell my children all the time. Everyone has an agenda. You have to determine whether or not that agenda aligns with yours, runs parallel without touching yours or is in conflict with yours. Then establish your relationships with them accordingly.

A personal mentor told me once upon a time that you will be able to count all your real friends on one hand. I have found that to be true.

Then there is the Ronald Reagan model>
Trust but verify

Or the John Bridger (The Italian Job 2003) model,>
I trust everybody, just not the devil inside them.

The Bachmanns are hiding something with their very lawyerly answers to a couple of simple questions. The press knows it now. Mrs. Bachmann's political fortunes are going to deteriorate quickly now. Just watch.

Bachmann said executive experience doesn’t matter if it comes with “more of the same big government as usual.”

Bachmann presents a false dichotomy here. The preferred solution is to have someone with executive experience who doesn't propose "more of the same big government as usual". That is, it doesn't have to be an either/or proposition.

And Bachmann fails on the executive experience count.
