So you actually believe that my saying I'm praying for her family, and that she was a strong woman, without the disclaimer that she wasn't pro-life is 'inappropriate' on a thread announcing her death?

I guess we'll have to agree to disagree here, xzins. I can express my sorrow for her family with no negative comments about her, and that's what I've done.

Apparently the vast majority of very strong pro-lifers agree with me because very few are making a stink on this thread.

And that's how it should be.

As a pastor, I find it out of line to misrepresent a person of notoriety on his/her death. If I’m in that situation, I simply address the hope that is ours in Jesus and the love that their family had for them.

I've been sober in Alcoholics Anonymous for nearly twenty-one years and I have immense appreciation for what Betty Ford did to raise awareness about the disease of alcoholism, there are a lot of people who are alive today because of her courage in that area.

That being said, I will not sit by and pretend that the Fords were conservative in any sense.

However, I will certainly keep the Ford family in my prayers.

I am somewhat curious as to how you manage to separate your praise for her alcoholism work, which would have been accomplished just as well by some other Quasi famous person if it hadn’t been Betty Ford, and her lifelong devotion to the destruction of the unborn. Did you know that she earned a Lifetime Achievement Award from NARAL at a luncheon where the topic was convincing Bill Clinton to veto the ban on partial birth abortions?

Betty Ford represented the Nancy Pelosi wing of the Republican party. Her views on abortion were no different from those of Pelosi, Ried or Obama.

Frankly this must devalue any good she may have done in other areas.

She will be praised at her funeral for her courage in fighting those who oppose a woman’s right to choose. Yet we see her praised on this thread by people who call themselves pro life, calling her an inspiration to millions. 50 million and counting.

It COULD have been done by others, but the fact remains that she did it.

Yep, and a I have nothing but disdain for that.

Betty Ford represented the Nancy Pelosi wing of the Republican party. Her views on abortion were no different from those of Pelosi, Ried or Obama.

I agree.

It does.

I'm NOT praising her, I expressed appreciation for her initial work in raising awareness of alcoholism and NOTHING MORE and I think her subsequent statements on marijuana have largely negated her other work in the field of alcoholism.

I want nothing to do with you.

Wow. I didn't realize how much respect you had for Betty Ford.

I'm sorry for your loss.

I’ve read that she and her husband had one of the stronger White House marriages.

RIP.
