Since it is not official, they should tell her she can hold it on the sidewalk (assuming she has a permit 30 days in advance).

“Does Pelosi have the authority to call hearings?”

She could always clear out a broom closet for her “Hearings”, like the nutjobs did for the “Anti-war” hearings

House Pubbies ought to lock 'em out of any conference room they try to use.

Make 'em go to the Motel 6 and record it with cellphones.

I suppose she’ll be parading the usual suspects (the old, the young and the infirm) who will instantly tip over dead if the Republicans don’t surrender. The MSM will be orchestrating the cheerleading section and providing crying towels.

There is no chance of default on the debt, regardless of the passing of the deadline.

None. Zero. Zip. Nada.

Debt service is paid out of current receipts, which continue as long as the government collects withheld income taxes and earns interest on its own bond investments.

It's all a show, and the same one we've seen for years: scare the living bejeezzes out of grandpa and grandma until they beg the government to "do something". Taxes will go up and Congress will promise to reduce future spending - but won't.

If she's so damn worried about the ramifications of our government defaulting on its debts, maybe she should focus on not increasing them, but on cutting spending instead.

Isn't that what any sane person or organization in such a situation would do?

RE :”Washington, D.C. – Democratic Leader Nancy Pelosi announced today that the House Democratic Steering and Policy Committee will hold a hearing this Thursday at 12:00 p.m. on the impact of a default on the United States economy, job creation, and seniors and the middle class. This hearing, the only one in the House of Representatives on this critical issue, will emphasize the pain the American people would face if the United States were to default on its debt.

This is consistent with what they been doing on MSNBC every night on all the shows, they been warning of a financial Armageddon if Republicans don't give up their ‘unreasonable refusal to support increasing tax revenues and cutting tax loophole spending’ (their words.)

These libs are sorry there was no serious confrontation over the last (FY11) budget as they wanted Obama to hold out for a shutdown and then publicly blame Republicans for it. They are watching the current shutdown in Minnesota and longing for a similar battle like it so they can say :”Look how happy Republicans are that your ... isnt getting their ....!”

If this really results in a standoff Obama will be able to cut any program he wants: soldier's pay, SS, medicare and will get on TV and blame Republicans for it looking very upset, pained and concerned :( .

There are two things congressional Republicans should do relating to this standoff:
1) Sent a short term debt extension bill (no not 2 trillion, how about 200B??) to the Senate with no tax increases with the desired budget cuts and point out how Democrats are blocking it over their tax increase demands.
2) Start looking worried and upset and concerned about Democrats doing #1 risking all the same things they are warning us against. Turn these Pelosis hearings into an indictment on Obama.

Just my thoughts, popping the popcorn for this one.

Read it more closely - these aren’t official House of Representatives hearings - they are a private circle jerk for Democrats

Are the fake pretend hearings by the fake pretend Speaker Pelosi going to be in the basement or out on the lawn?

We have a sunset boulevard situation going on here.

Agreed, except for one thing. We have a Cloward-Piven President. If chaos gives him an oppty to blame Republicans and pull a Reichstag fire stunt, he’d go for it.

“Debt service is paid out of current receipts, which continue as long as the government collects withheld income taxes and earns interest on its own bond investments.”

That’s how it should work, but Obama admin makes the call.

I’m with you on this.

Boehner needs to put the GOP position on the table, by passing it in the House, I think the bill should cut $1 trillion - over the next 4 years only - and then challenge the Democrats to do the same in the Senate and declare:
“Pass your bill in the Senate and we will fix it in the conference.”

Still just a sham podium for dilusional dems to harp on how Repubs are gonna kill women, children and old folks. Same ol’ crap... just a different toilet.

True, but it's the kind of sham podium that the RATS use to run rings around the Stupid Party who have never figured out how to conduct such hearings nor park on the Capitol steps to hold a press conference bashing the RATS.

I agree there’s always that risk, but a refusal on the part of the President to authorize debt repayment from available receipts in order to further a political agenda might well be an impeachable offense.
