I got stuck the other day on the decomposition smell the dogs found in the Anthonys' backyard. It just didn't make sense that Caylee died elsewhere, was taken out of the car, laid on the ground while Casey was attempting to dig a hole in the ground with the shovel she borrowed from the neighbor. She could have easily been caught had the neighbor stopped in, parents come home, etc.

Fatima had this theory: I think she was dead when Casey left with her that day.I think she took the shovel to get the bag out of the trunk and toss it in the woods. Then she rinsed it off back by the playhouse -hence the odor hit-.

Here's another. What if she (and/or the mother, Cindy) used a steam cleaner to try to get smell/stain out of the trunk, then dumped the water contents of the vacuum onto the ground? Cleaners used to steam clean the trunk liner could also account for some of the traces of chemicals found in the trunk. One of the experts testified that the presence of chloroform could also be from household cleaners.

Casey backed into the driveway/garage three times the first week Caylee went missing. What if she borrowed the shovel to try to move the body to the swampy area or even attempt to dig a shallow grave there. Either that day or the next time she came over, maybe she attempted to clean out the trunk?

Interview With Anthony Family Investigator Released
..........."Also included in the documents is a letter asking the FBI to compare items taken from the Anthony house in December, when a search warrant was executed. Among the items taken from the house are multiple garbage bags, a Bissell steam cleaner, Dirt Devil vacuum cleaner, a Bissell spot cleaner and one red gas can with duct tape.".................

There's also this: New discovery released in Casey Anthony case
.........."Since the Caylee Anthony case first broke nearly two years ago, we've seen investigators haul vacuum cleaner after vacuum cleaner out of the Anthony's home. Casey Anthony's mom, Cindy, told deputies she cleaned Casey's car when it came back from the tow yard because it smelled so bad. In Friday's discovery we learn that investigators tore apart four vacuum cleaners taken into evidence.

Federal Bureau of Investigation lab notes show the vacuums were examined for human hair with characteristics of human decomposition, but, none were found."...............

Now whether it was only Cindy who cleaned out the trunk (as she claimed she had), or Casey, or both.....it also explains the virtual lack of evidence (except a little hair) from Caylee's body.....mainly what was left was the decomp smell.

The vacuums seemed to have been quite clean to not find any evidence, or the use of chemicals could have helped dilute any evidence. Either the Bissell spot cleaner or the Bissell steam cleaner could have been used in cleanup. A Bissell "SpotBot" is a hands-free cleaning vacuum. Here's a link to one that that may or may not be similar to what was taken. Bissell Spotbot

When authorities seized the car on July 16, I believe they found just a little dirt and a freshener sheet in the trunk......not sure. It could be that Casey and/or Cindy HAD taken some (or all?) evidence out of the car when cleaning it.

Fascinating theories! But I do have to laugh at Cindy Anthony’s list of vacuum cleaners. Nurses have such a neurotic fear of germs and dirt!

One of the experts testified that the presence of chloroform could also be from household cleaners.

This has been disproven. There was only chloroform. They did test for those cleaners and they weren't present. Also, the amount of chloroform was surprisingly high. It's a volatile chemical that evaporates. The fact that it was still present in such high amounts after so much time (and still present months later on evidence that was shipped unsealed) shows that the chemical itself was in very high amounts.

I'm guessing that it was high enough that it had to have been spilled in the trunk.

Oh, that sounds like a very logical line of thought - thanks!
