California college students are bracing for higher tuition bills and fewer courses and campus services under a new state budget that once again slashes spending on higher education.

The budget signed Thursday by Gov. Jerry Brown inflicts the latest blow to California's renowned higher education system, which has helped make the state an economic powerhouse and served as a model for other states and countries.

But it was essentially free. Free goods become abused and distorted.

...”I attended the community college system and Cal State. If those idiots would dump preferred treatment for illegals, eliminate idiot programs like gender equality and sex ed, they could fix the system”...

I watched John Stossel’s special on the college “scam” last night. It was impressive and America needs to know how the government is helping these very well off schools to rip off our young people, leaving them with huge debts to pay for many years of their lives after college, and giving them little to show for it..Certainly, many, especially the Ivy-Leagues, teach mostly left-wing hate during those college years, with a professor population as high as 30:1, Democrat to Republican. The politically correct rules in many institutions are insane, with very little freedom of speech and these are rules which do not stand up when aired in court. In addition, the problem of tenure is the elephant in the room. Tenure is a very destructive thing for education. It is held over the heads of professors and if they do not dance to the ideological drum, they do not get it..Then, they might as well move on. Higher education has ripped off states, families and our nation with the insanity and the states will lead the way toward correcting the fiasco. I am guessing that technical schools which teach students REAL skills will become very popular but will not have the capacity to handle the applications. Perhaps the best of all training will come back through apprentice ships and self-teaching..The sex ed and gender equality will go when the wolf comes to enough doors in our nation. Insanity only lasts while times are good.
Stossel also spent time talking about the huge endowements some of these schools have but, still, they hit the Alumni up for donations..He says he doesn’t give anything to Princeton because they are very rich. He says he is going to give his charitable donation to a place which needs the money. On this July 4th, we need to determine that we are going to stand for our freedom once more, because, in my lifetime, it has never been more threatened from within than it is now.

California's renowned higher education system, which has helped make the state an economic powerhouse

ROTFLMOA! - which part of that system then made the state into the economic basket case that it is now, with businesses and productive people fleeing in ever increasing numbers?

How about cutting professor salaries by 25%?? And that would just be a start.

This is only part of it. At any given time, half of the profs are off on fully paid sabbaticals. They only teach one course at a time at UC and a couple of courses at CalState schools when they are there. Most of the teaching is done by (non-union) adjuncts and grad students.

The admin is of course huge and all the janitors etc are full unionized and get outrageous pay and benefits.

I think students should claim they are illegals and go to the state schools at other states that will give them in-state tuition.
