Exactly. He likely did rape her but she lacks credibility. I hope she gets deported. (The last I heard, the illegal aliens who is Obama’s relative was still getting welfare.)
One difference is that Strauss-Khan’s DNA was found on the maid. In Duke case, the DNA on the stripper was from NONE of the Duke players, one of whom was not even there, IIRC. The source of the DNA was not made public.
The source of the DNA was not made public, most likely because the people (I believe there were three possible DNA matches, none of which matched any lacrosse player) were not on file. DNA can only be matched to someone - it cannot, of itself, identify them.
Personally, I’m glad we “frog marched” him into jail. He’s an arrogant prick, who has succeeded in getting away with this kind of behavior all his life or so it would seem from the press accounts. He’s been humiliated, lost his cushy job with the IMF, and won’t be the President of France. How much better could it have been. Just like OJ Simpson, finally he gets his.
I see...evidence that a MAID had $100,000 deposited in her ACCOUNT, the next day, none of the defenses business.....You’re clueless!
When they determine WHO made the deposit, it will point to motive and conspiracy, and it will be EVERYONE’S BUSINESS.
He is still guilty of forcible rape in my opinion. The fact that his victim appears to be a petty criminal who may have attempted to arrange a clumsy blackmail does not exonerate him.
The French legal system, based upon Napoleonic code, does not include a presumption of innocence. Perhaps we should have tried Mr Strauss-Khan under that standard.
Or perhaps not. In practice the French do not appear to believe that rape is a crime when it is committed by the rich and powerful.
Rule of Law is a great idea. Maybe we should actually try it some day. In the mean time it is extremely unwise to trust the political elites of any country.
I don’t want to exonerate him, I just didn’t like the fact that we tried him in the press without knowing all the facts and that the prosecutor allowed this to happen.
We can’t really be sure that it was forceable rape, not after the woman called her boyfriend in prison and asked him what to do next, to maximize the situation.
It may actually be a very good thing for the world that Strauss-Kahn’s political career took such a hit, but it is a bad thing for the world that the US rule of law took this kind of hit.
