Judge blocks new South Dakota abortion law from taking effect

A federal judge on Thursday barred a tough new South Dakota abortion law from taking effect while it's being challenged in court.

The law, which would have taken effect Friday, requires women seeking abortions to face a three-day waiting period and undergo counseling at pregnancy help centers that discourage abortion. The waiting period would have been the longest in the nation.

Also taking effect Friday is a strict new licensing law for abortion providers in Kansas. On Thursday, the state avoided becoming the first state without an abortion provider by granting a license to a Planned Parenthood clinic. The law's regulations also are being challenged in federal court.

Both laws are part of an unprecedented surge of anti-abortion legislation that has advanced through Republican-controlled legislatures in many states. Collectively, the measures create an array of new obstacles — legal, financial and psychological — for women seeking abortions and doctors performing them.

The tactics of other states that have passed anti-abortion legislation have varied: mandatory sonograms and anti-abortion counseling, sweeping limits on insurance coverage, bans on abortions after 20 weeks of pregnancy.

SD law unconstitutional? In South Dakota, Planned Parenthood argued in a lawsuit that the law violates a woman's constitutional right to abortion established under the 1973 Roe v. Wade ruling.

In her ruling, Chief Judge Karen Schreier said that Planned Parenthood demonstrated that provisions of the law are "likely" unconstitutional, in particular the pregnancy help center requirement.

the law violates a woman's constitutional right to abortion

No such right has ever or will ever exist, all that exists today is judicially sanctioned murder.

To paraphrase Ruth Bell Graham, Billy Graham’s dear wife: if God doesn’t judge and punish the USA for the murder of millions upon millions in the womb of their mothers then God will have to apologize to Sodom and Gomorrah. I hope this case goes straight to the Supreme Court on a day when Justice Kennedy is suddenly worrying about his place in the afterlife.

So it’s okay to mandate a three day waiting period for someone wanting to purchase a gun but not for someone wanting to kill a baby in the womb.

Presumably the waiting period for the gun purchase is to provide a cooling off period.

Why not the same for the intentional execution of a baby?

The most EVIL rulings in U.S. historu was the 1973 Supreme Court Roe v. Wade.

I wonder what the judges will think when the REAL Supreme Judge rules?

Many judges in America seem quite biased toward gay marriage and abortion.

A ‘constitutional right to abortion’? Just let that term sink in for a minute. What the hades does an abortion have with rights granted in the constitution? The right to murder babies? Its demented and sickening on so many levels.

Judges Gone Wild think they are Kings. Why bother having state legislatures? Why bother with citizens voting at all? Just ask leftist scum judges and whatever they say, goes.

No three day waiting period for gun purchase in TX. Maybe you should consider moving to a non-communist state.

On several occasions, when people have claimed a constitutional right to some thing like abortion, I have seen my brother pull out his pocket Constitution, and them to point it out.

I love to hear libs stammer

How DARE any judge in this country adjudicate against LIFE, the very first right in “...life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness?”

Impeach this anti-Constitution, murder-condoning demon and all like him who usurp our God-given rights by leftist ukase.
