Anchorage Daily News: Poll shows Alaskans would vote for Obama over Palin
Anchorage Daily News ^ | 06/28/2011 | Sean Cockerham

A new Hays Research poll shows Barrack Obama would beat Sarah Palin among Alaskans if the presidential election was today.

The poll found 42 percent of Alaskan voters would pick or are learning toward Obama in a head to head race against Palin for the presidency, while 36 percent of the voters would choose or are leaning toward Palin over him.

Conservative Anchorage radio host Mike Porcaro paid for Hays Research to ask the question.

“Sarah Palin showcases her Alaska roots at every opportunity, but the surprising reality is she has become highly unpopular in her home state,” Porcaro said in an emailed statement.

“Whether it is the fact she left office after serving barely two years or that some Alaskans believe her tax policies have punished our vital oil and gas industry or the ‘rock star’ nature of her media coverage, these results show Sarah Palin would lose to Obama in Alaska, where voters overwhelmingly support conservative candidates,” Porcaro said.

Porcaro hosts an afternoon show on KENI AM and owns an Anchorage advertising agency.

Hays Research of Anchorage polled 500 Alaskans who voted in at least two of the four statewide elections. The poll was on June 21st and June 22nd.

It asked:

“Although it is some time from now, thinking about the election for President of the United States next year, if the election were held today and the candidates were Democrat Barack Obama or Republican Sarah Palin, for whom would you vote or are you undecided?”

Respondents who had “strong” views favored Obama 34 percent to Palin’s 25 percent.

What curious timimg. They are going to go all out if she announces a presidential run. It will be sickening but also great to see her rise above it.

Right. It’s obvious accuracy is not their goal.

The very words you use to describe Palin: “damagaged goods, unelectable, she can’t win”.....those were the same words they used to describe Ronald Reagan in 1980.

It’s too early to poll. When it comes to election time it’s not going to be about personalities. It’s not going to be about issues. “Sarah Palin” and “Barack Obama” won’t matter. The economy, jobs, debt, spending, etc that will matter. And Obama will lose on the issues.

I’m not buying this simply because Alaska is very conservative and Obama is a socialist.

Post 9 is a good source. Not sure, however, if it will make you feel better.

They have long since burnt out bringing up any legitimate ‘concern.’ Palin has stood up to every bit of scrutiny and passed with flying colors. Now it’s down to PDS, “she cant win” nonsense with ho proof to back it up, and crap made up from whole cloth.

It’s inevitable, they can’t stop the asteroid hurtling at them at warp speed and they are babbling to their nonexistent liberal gods for salvation...period.

RE: I’m not buying this simply because Alaska is very conservative

Well, if this is true, can someone explain to me how Uber RINO Lisa Murkowski whose name was not even on last year’s ballot won over the real conservative, Joe Miller VIA write-in, at a time when the entire country practically handed Congress and major state legislatures and governors to Tea Party supported candidates?

No other poll conducted anywhere has obama with that much strong support and so little moderate to weak support.

I actually think Palin can win. That could just be wishful thinking on my part, but I do actually think she’s got a decent shot.

The Section 8 class would.

The purpose of Section 8 is to import Obama voters into non-Obama voter territory.

How many of those Section 8 people would be living in Alaska if they weren't getting free rent?

Missed that one, didn't they? Notice that Research 2000, polling at the same time, nailed it almost perfectly.

These so-called “conservatives” are nothing but scumbags. This woman does not deserve anything remotely to what they have been, and are, trying to do to her. All of these attempts on her character are nothing but a REFLECTION on those who attack her!

I find it believable. I place ZERO value in my vote. It is meaningless. Likewise my correspondence with my government representatives, pure waste of effort. Just passing time, and keeping an eye out. Hope it turns around, but have no say so in the matter.
