The GOP Will Pay a Grave Price
National Review Online ^ | June 25, 2011 | Maggie Gallagher

New York Republicans are responsible for passing gay marriage. The party will pay a grave price.

Here is what we know. In state after state, Democrats who control a chamber in support of their base have prevented votes favorable to marriage: Iowa, West Virginia, North Carolina, Pennsylvania.

When Democrats are in the minority, they’ve demonstrated an extraordinary commitment to their base — in Wisconsin and Indiana fleeing the state to prevent a vote.

N.Y, Republicans did not have to bring gay marriage up for a vote: What does it mean that they passed gay marriage in N.Y.?

Michael Long, the Conservative-party chairman, has vowed to withhold his endorsement. The National Organization for Marriage has committed $2 million to persuading Republicans: Voting for gay marriage has consequences.

Sad that the N.Y. GOP has caved. Consequences to be continued.

It's NY. The Pink state. There is no real GOP there.

New York Republicans are responsible for passing gay homosexual marriage.

Maybe, like Ollie Snowe and Susie Collins they are rally log cabin republican rinos.

They threw democracy under the bus, for sure. The GOP had the power to block this in numerous ways.

This means of course more designer fatherless families and more messed up kids. The welfare bills are going to be huge – thank you taxpayer slaves!

Right on! When I lived in NY I voted for a CONSERVATIVE party line every time. The GOP sends funds to these RINOS which in turn breed more RINOS. The only question I have is how do Gays breed more Gays? Hopefully they will try breeding with the NY GOP. LOL

For more years than I can remember, the two houses in the NY State Assembly have almost always been split between the Republicans and the Democrats. That has meant that neither party could just run away with the state.

I think the Republicans have been playing with fire here. First the Dede Scozzafava fiasco, then the failure to agree with the Conservative Party for the next candidate. Now this.

I think the Republicans are risking losing permanent control of both houses—which will, of course, also offer the Dems more chances to cheat in the national elections.

And, frankly, they will deserve it after this gay marriage vote.

Brainwash other people's kids in the public schools.

“...which will, of course, also offer the Dems more chances to cheat in the national elections.”

New York hasn’t given its electoral votes to a Republican candidate since Reagan won. The GOP there is toothless and worthless. Giving that scumbag Cuomo his great gay victory last night was a new low, even for RINOs.

It's worth noting that New York Republicans like Nelson Rockefeller were at the forefront of some of most radically leftist policies in American society (legalized abortion, for example).

Anyone who bases their votes on party identification is a loser, in my opinion. The term "Republican" has no meaning whatsoever in the context of liberal vs. conservative political philosophies.

You're right. It didn't even HAVE to come up for a vote in THE GOP-CONTROLLED CHAMBER! - even with a couple of RINO turncoats among them.

And the United States of America will pay a grave price. It is a very sick nation.

“The term “Republican” has no meaning whatsoever in the context of liberal vs. conservative political philosophies.”

Sadly, the same is true in Illinois.

The GOP is doomed as a major political party.

No, they won’t pay a price. This is why we have this mess. How else does one explain that we got McCain as the GOP standard bearer in 2008? And Snowe, Collins, Graham and the rest of this traitorous group keeps getting re-elected?

Right. They seem hell bent on Obamacide. Most GOP voters only vote for them out of fear of Democrats.

New York is in desperate need of a viable Tea party organization to fire up the grass roots. If that means the Conservative Party so be it. No big deal to me if they make the GOP the third party in the state.

Quite frankly, I think the GOP is going to take a huge hit, nationwide, in 2012. The reason is, we can’t get the RINOs to stop running the show. But we have to remember, these things take time.

We have this in NY. For some time now it has been obvious to anyone paying attention that the “GOP Leadership” has been marginalizing Sarah Palin. We KNOW they are trying to push Romney upon us. Etc., etc., etc.

So, what we are going to get is a bunch of RINOS in 2012, with a smattering of Conservatives tossed in in an attempt to appease us, and an electorate that sees a hash of conflicting principles that they are NOT going to like.

It’s a hard slog, but ridding the Party of RINOs should be our highest of priorities ... and I mean over ANYTHING else. If not, we are consigned to permanent minority status.

God is going to get us all for this.

He will not be mocked.

I sometimes joke around in my SS class that all the human misery is God's fault anyway since He granted humans "free will".

But there are some things that are written in both Books which make it clear that God is not going to put up with homosexuals sticking it in our faces for very long.

He has already destroyed two towns that we know of for exactly just this behavior. The Apostle Paul warned the Corinthians about homos. Also, I think I read somewhere that one of the reasons that the Roman Empire failed is that homosexuality and welfare were rampant in the last days.

Anyway, every state and locality that enacts "homosexual marriage" is only driving the final nails in the United States coffin.

Elections have consequences....some are more consequential than others...Gov Cuomo looked really happy when he signed the bill last night....
