Rep. Issa counters anonymous critics

A chief critic of ATF's gunwalking operation was reportedly briefed on the program last year --- but didn't object. That's according to unnamed sources speaking to the Washington Post about the classified briefing. The sources said Rep. Darrell Issa (R-CA) was given "highly specific information" in an April 2010 briefing, attended by members of Congress from both parties.

The operation called "Fast and Furious" is now under fire by Issa and others for allegedly allowing thousands of assault rifles and other weapons to get into the hands of Mexican drug cartels. CBS News first broke the story in February. "All of the things [Issa] has been screaming about, he was briefed on,'' said one anonymous source to the Washington Post.

Today, a spokesman for Issa said that unlike the Post's sources, Issa will not discuss the classified briefing except to say he was not briefed or told about gunwalking by ATF agents until after the death of Border Patrol Agent Brian Terry.

Terry was gunned down near the Arizona-Mexico border last December. Two guns that ATF allegedly let "walk" were found at the murder scene.

"(O)pponents of this investigation are incredulously trying to assert that Obama Administration political appointees at the Justice Department were ignorant - yet Congress was in the know on the details of Operation Fast and Furious," said Issa in a statement.

Today's public relations attack against Issa comes as sources tell CBS News ATF Acting Director Kenneth Melson is coming under increasing pressure to resign over the scandal. Internal emails obtained by CBS News indicate Melson was deeply involved in the controversial ATF operation run out of the Phoenix office.

Despite rampant speculation, Melson hasn't resigned. Today, he hosted ATF's first annual Gay Pride observance. Melson told ATF employees "Our role is to do our best to welcome the many so that we can work as one."

The keynote speaker at the event, Rep. Barney Frank (D-MASS) didn't mention or defend Fast and Furious,

Issa spokesman Frederick Hill told The Daily Caller the Post is the first newspaper to run these DOJ claims, but not the first one the Justice Department went to with them.

“We have had people who have contacted us before the Washington Post,” Hill said. “They told us people in the Justice Department were trying to push this story and I think a number of publications didn’t think it was credible or, for whatever reason, decided not to run it.”

The MSM schools and government can’t mention ONE NATION UNDER GOD. Or God in any way but it is somehow okay to have a “Gay Pride Observance,” like it is a mandated religion? What happens to employees who do not wish to attend?

I never thought I’d live to see the day that one of our supposed trusted agencies the DOJ, stonewalls justice refuses subpoena’s and refuse to answer questions saying; THEY DON’T KNOW.

Yet, they know enough to try to make Issa guilty of something falsely? It shows desperation alright but this is the DOJ spreading smear tactics about Issa. This is truly frightening when the DOJ is corrupt muchless our entire government because of one treasonous Obama who thinks he and his mob thugs are above the law!

When will WalpinGate be investigated?

"All of the things [Issa] has been screaming about, he was briefed on,'' said one anonymous source to the Washington Post.
If this were true it wouldn't have to come out through an anonymous source as the administration would be shouting it from the rooftop.
I guess that's too hard for the MSM to figure out.

Certainly the DOJ is desperate, they may have spread this corrupt story about Issa, but the corrupt, biased, pinko Washington Post bit big time.

Is not the Washington Post being used by DOJ? Doesn’t the Washington Post have a record of being used by liberals Justice and Democrats to spread the filth they put out.

The Washington Post cannot go broke fast enough to suit me.

They would probably even declassify the notes taken at the briefing just to prove it if it were true.

Issa spokesman Frederick Hill said the chairman of the House Oversight and Government Reform Committee was not briefed about the "Fast and Furious" operation in a 2010 meeting with officials from the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives (ATF).

Hill criticized a report in the Washington Post on Wednesday that stated Issa was told of the operation at that briefing and raised no objection. Hill depicted the anonymous information used in the article as a last-ditch attempt by Justice Department (DOJ) officials to derail Issa’s investigation into the operation, which may have contributed to the killing of at least one federal agent.

“The Justice Department right now is packed full of people who had knowledge of this operation and they had their careers ended over it, and there’s people out there that have every incentive to lie or do whatever it takes right now to try to discredit this investigation so that they can save their careers by this investigation not being able to expose everybody who was involved in it,” Hill said.

Sounds to me like trying to interfer with a Congressional investigation. The entire DOJ ATF and Executive Offices are repleat with political hacks who should be burnt at the stake.

"That's according to unnamed sources speaking to the Washington Post about the classified briefing."

Oh yeah! I'll see your "unnamed sources" and raise you with my "unnamed sources" who say that the operation was referred to in the past tense, and that when Rep. Issa specifically asked if the operation had ceased, the response was 'yes.'

I just love the game of "unnamed sources" - heck, I have other "unnamed sources" that tell me there's some gently-used urban infrastructure in Brooklyn that's up for sale.

Maybe not, but studied indifference from the MSM could; after all, without the constant screaming in the papers for Nixon’s head, Watergate would still be just the name of a hotel in D.C.

Do not forget that in the early days of Fast & Furious, the Washington Post published indictments of several firearms dealers, accusing those dealers for being responsible for the “iron river” of firearms flowing into Mexico.

The information that the Washington Post stories were based upon came from the BATFE.

After several major articles, every one of those dealers were cleared because they were cooperating with BATFE on the straw purchases.

The Washington Post printed a one paragraph blip on the truth, but in a suspicious way.

In summary, the Washington Post is a demonstrated tool of liberal administrations.
