Hours after vetoing the state budget, Gov. Jerry Brown said this afternoon that he will continue negotiating with Republican lawmakers at least until month's end.
"We need four Republican votes, and in the next several days I'm going to do everything I can," Brown said at a press conference at his office in Los Angeles. "I'll move heaven and earth to get those votes."
The veto was widely viewed as crucial politically to Brown, who staked his campaign and first six months in office on his promise to adopt a spending plan balanced without accounting maneuvers. To abandon that effort would have weakened him greatly, observers said.
Brown has failed for months to find the two Republican votes needed in each house to put tax extensions on a ballot, a central part of his budget plan. He said today he wouldn't rule out targeting cuts in Republican districts if no deal can be reached, but he suggested his veto could move talks forward.

Yeah, that's what I thought. He'll find it easier to target budget cuts in Republican districts.
More precisely, hire union construction workers to move them, at Davis-Bacon Act prevailng wages.

I predict that before this is over the dims, led by Jerry Brown, will have to betray their promises to the Unions.
Pension Cuts. Spending Cap. Layoffs.
They really have no choice. Even IF they get the extension of the tax increases on the ballot it will not pass.
However, all Democrats must be seen and known to have fought to the last man to protect the unions or they are history. History.
That's why this thing is dragging out in slow motion.
Still, everyone knows what the outcome will be. The Democrats will have to choose between protecting the unions, protecting essential services and protecting the welfare programs.
A three-way vice.
Why don’t the CA-Rats “compromise” for once? They always get their way! Compromise - it goes two ways, ‘RATS!
Greedy union cartels...
Do a Wisconsin/New Jersey housecleaning on the state unions and pensions and begin drilling for oil in the fields off the California coast. It would be a start, anyway.
Anything short of that is felony accounting, smoke, and mirrors.
I’m sure that fact that there were several “fee increases, aka taxes” and other illegal spending/money stealing in the budget also factored into this. Brown had to know that billions of dollars in the budget would be bounced out by the courts so he really had no choice. We run out of money here in the land of fruits and nuts some time this summer, even if they find a few RINOs to bump up the taxes the California government is pretty much in the same place as Greece is, insolvent. And like Greece they just can’t admit it but they can’t do much about it either.
Better hope for some global cooling as a long hot summer is going to see California burning in more ways than one.

Jerry, there’s nothing you can offer them that’s worth them getting either primaried out or recalled, and that’s exactly what will happen if any of these guys goes with you on this.
Man, I would not want to be trapped in LA.
There will be a time, very soon, when the checks won't cash. Or, won't be issued.
And LA will burn along with much of the Bay Area and some Inland Empire and some Central Valley neighborhoods and cities.
But especially LA.
Take a vacation at the first sign of trouble...or send the wife and kids to grandmas until things blow over.
I'm not even sure the National Guard could hold Sacramento.
If he can move the giant hogs at the SEIU, that will be sufficient.
wow!
Hey Buddy, moving heaven and earth is BHO’s job, haven’t you seen the pictures?
It is blasphemey for Brown to say that he, a man, is going to move a mountain...he does not even believe in Christ Jesus, so Brown has no authority to quote God and attribute it to a man's doing.
If you do not like this answer, then take it up with Christ Jesus and God Almighty.
Democrats hate Christians, and therefore hate Christ...
No, I meant like book, chapter and verse. Thanks.
No matter how bad things get here in Ohio,I can count among my blessings that I don’t live in California.
...the only thing moving in California is cow bowels....
Just a few Scriptures to demonstrate that it is God to which mountains respond and move at His command or presence, not man, or deamon possesed liberal Gov Brown.
Things are tough everywhere, but I wouldn't trade California for Ohio for a second.
