Dominique Strauss-Kahn expected to claim 'police irregularities' over arrest
The Telegraph UK ^ | 6/5/11 | Henry Samuel, Paris

Posted on 06/06/2011 12:05:13 AM PDT by Cincinna

Dominique Strauss-Kahn is expected to claim his arrest was marred by irregularities when he is formally arraigned in New York state court on Monday on sexual assault charges.   The former IMF  chief faces several charges including  attempted rape, sexual abuse, and unlawful imprisonment on a New York hotel maid.  He was arrested on May 14 as he sat in an Air France jet awaiting takeoff for Paris after contacting the Sofitel hotel to say he had forgotten one of his mobile phones.  Police traced the call and arrested him, citing fears he might seek to  flee the country.   A source close to Strauss-Kahn, former Socialist presidential hopeful, said the flight fear was unfounded.  "The conditions of Mr Strauss-Kahn's arrest pose a problem," the source told Le Journal du Dimanche.  "It appears the prosecutor glossed a little fast over the question of his personal status, and his computer and telephones."  "They had the IMF director arrested like a chicken thief. To justify it, they brought up (the risk of) flight, but the plane was booked some time ago (and changed the previous day)."  Mr Strauss-Kahn is awaiting trial in a 50,000 dollar-per-month apartment in Tribeca after his heiress wife paid a $1 million dollar bail and 200,000-dollar monthly security fee.  Lef Forster, a French lawyer who had previously represented Mr Strauss-Kahn, said he was convinced he would plead not guilty.  The trial will pit two of America's top legal heavyweights - Manhattan's district attorney Cyrus R. Vance and Ben Brafman, defence lawyer to the stars.  The defence is reportedly expected to argue that sex was consensual, that the plaintiff, a 32-year-old woman from Guinea, is not credible and that she acted for financial gain.  The prosecution will say she's a devout Muslim mother trapped by a powerful sex offender.

The only thing “irregular” is that this rapist wasn’t put in with the other prisoners at Riker’s Island instead of getting special solitary confinement.

Given that the French are so open-minded about sex, why are we denying this perv the right to explore an alternative lifestyle in prison?

 ”...the flight fear was unfounded.
”They had the IMF director arrested like a chicken thief. To justify it, they brought up (the risk of) flight, but the plane was booked some time ago (and changed the previous day).”
French logic at work: they caught him on an AF flight ready to leave the country for France.
But he wasn’t a flight risk because his ticket was bought in advance.
If that’s his defense, he might be buying himself a one way ticket to Attica!

the French are so open-minded about sex,

If he isn't open-minded now, he will get plenty of chances if he is convicted and sent to prison.

It is possible that jury nullification is another move they are in store for. They can claim many Americans are prejudicial to DSK, and he is entitled to impartial jury. That will be another comedy. I can picture ‘fine minds’ from Grandes Ecoles are huddling together and scouring legal literature of U.S. at this time to save their superstar DSK.

It has been an open secret in elite Parisian government & media circles that DSK liked to frequent swanky Swinger’s Clubs in Central Paris, and reported in news that he “flirted” , as the sexy French lotharios are wont to do, with the hostess on the AF escape flight, saying, “what a great a$$” that should merit a smack in the teeth.
Who does he think he is? Pepe le Pew?

The perp walking grandstanding cops and prosecutors writing Valentines to themselves in the press, making statements regarding cases before the court ,in total disregard of the accused's right to a fair trial, including an impartial jury, is justice denied. An injustice to one is an injustice to us all. When the came to get the frog pervert creep, I said nothing because I hate them. When they came to get the Freepers, half them thought if the cops said the other Freepers did it, they must have. When they came to get me, I ratted you out and saved myself even though I was guilty as hell, because I gave the cops what they wanted. A dough nut.

Well he is French and it is considered just as hygenic to wear cologne, in place of bathing.

Have you ever toured the Louvre on an August afternoon? Amphibians don't smell. Frogs on the other hand ...

Sounds like grasping at straws. He left his phone on someone else’s property, and the police had probable cause to examine the phone because there was a sworn felony complaint against him and because he was attempting to leave the jurisdiction. As far as “glossing over his status”, he had no status. “He might have been a diplomat” is weak tea in terms of tossing evidence.

Yup.

Blaming the victim, in this case, will backfire spectacularly. For some bizarre reason, his lawyers think he’s going before a Paris jury.

Let the fireworks begin!

DSK was not traveling on a diplomatic passport, but on his personal passport.
Had he whipped out a diplomatic passport & said to the cops who boarded the AF flight “I have diplomatic immunity, things would have gone differently for him.
One possibility is that this is his normal behavior, and really didn’t understand he had done anything “wrong”
Libertines with no conscience who are accustomed to being sheltered
& protected might very well react that way.

Good point. The only point I would clarify is that jury trials in France are very very rare, and cases like thus are handled by a “Juge d’instruction” an appointed Bureaucrat/magistrate who evaluates the evidence and testimony on both sides, behind closed doors, and then comes to a conclusion. This process can take years!
No jury trial, no 4th Amendment, no due process, no right to a speedy trial, no open court.

Have no illusions that the le Pens are right wing or conservative, in our
American sense of the term.
The “rue” le Pen would lead to an even more morally bankrupt, anti-American, anti-Capitalist France. Le Pen is a neo-Nazi fascist.
. He has such a morally troubled past himself - three ex-wives, one of whom posed nude in a girlie magazine, many mistresses,.
His youngest daughter Marion, known as “Marine” has followed in her Father’s footsteps. Many marriages and divorces, now living openly with her “companion” not married, with children.
Great example for the French whose traditional nuclear family is fast disappearing
