The recent tiff between Rep. Paul Ryan and Newt Gingrich is discouraging. Gingrich described Ryan’s plan to offer more choices for certain Medicare benefits as “right-wing social engineering” and “too big a jump.” Realizing he needs to win the primaries before revealing his statist leanings, Gingrich quickly retracted his comments.
Like most career politicians, he’s for or against whatever policies and programs boost his election chances. But Newt blew it. And now you see why President Barack Obama rarely risks speaking without his traveling teleprompter.
Last year the Tea Party propelled Republicans espousing limited government to victory. While many Republican freshmen have maintained their fidelity to fiscal discipline, the party’s establishment remains firmly entrenched in big government. We still eagerly await progress on those promised spending cuts.

Title misses the problem. It is futile to trust Newt or Romney. For the real conservatives: Palin, Bachmann, DeMint, and Cain, it is sensible to trust their promises . . . and then watch them like hawks. There is a difference between even George W. Bush’s profligate and wasteful spending that blew through a record $500B in deficit spending in his last year and Obama’s massive waste that somehow managed to triple even Bush’s record deficit spending his first year. There is also a difference between the RINOs who waste less than Obama but still far too much, and the true Tea Party conservatives who want less government and in most cases mean what they say and will follow through.

Also applies to wanna-be career politicians - history is a more accurate predictor of governance than the rhetoric of the day...

Con. Weiner should run for President in '12. He should pick Boehner to be his vice president. It would then be the Weiner/Boehner '12 ticket.
I absolutely agree with you, but a small suggestion: even though it’s just a blog, your message would pack much more punch if you ran it by a good editor before posting.
