Traffic is backed up on Highway 59 south of Van Buren after an accident involving a truck carrying radioactive material. Crawford County Sheriff Ron Brown says he’s been told there’s no reason to believe anyone is in any danger.

Inside the truck was a small container marked “radioactive,” according Sheriff Brown. He says the container “has been breached.” But Sheriff Brown says the owner of the truck hauling the container says what’s inside the container is not harmful.

Hopefully the good sheriff verifies the danger with someone other than the truck's owner.

Yeah, kind of like asking the owners of the Fukushima reactor how things are going?

Representatives from TEPCO also confirm that the container is harmless, and that contrary to every report in existence, was not breached.

Good Lord. Hope it isn’t NNSA/OST. They train at nearby Fort Chaffee.

How far away from the truck was the owner when he said that?

There is not enough information presented here to make a decision...
there are things that are radioactive,
and then there are things that are RADIOACTIVE.

Things that are radioactive, get shipped all the time,
but things that are RADIOACTIVE are shipped in separate trucks.

If the picture at the sight is correct than it is nothing more that a nuclear desity gage. Minimal risk, used daily by inspectors and techicians for measuring compaction or road subgrades.
