Herman Cain, Sarah Palin tied for second in Iowa

Herman Cain’s scrappy campaign for the GOP presidential nomination is making an impression. From Public Policy Polling of North Carolina:

Mitt Romney has the lead in PPP’s first Iowa poll since Mike Huckabee and Donald Trump exited the race, but with six different candidates polling in double digits it’s clear this thing is wide open.

Romney polls at 21%. Sarah Palin and Herman Cain are tied for second at 15%. Newt Gingrich is 4th with 12%, Michele Bachmann 5th with 11%, Tim Pawlenty 6th with 10%, Ron Paul 7th with 8%, and Jon Huntsman 8th with 0% (only one respondent to the poll picked him.) 8% said they supported someone else or were undecided.

Cain and Palin have been the biggest beneficiaries in Iowa of Huckabee and Trump’s decisions not to run. Cain is at 15% now despite not even having been included on our last poll. Palin’s gained 7 points in the six weeks since our last poll compared to 5 point gains for Romney, Pawlenty, and Bachmann, a 3 point gain for Gingrich, and a 2 point bump for Paul.

Palin/Cain 2012 thru 2020.
Consistent Conservative Leadership.

It will take at least that long, followed by a West/Bachmann ticket in 2020 to clean this socialist mess up. ZerO & Pelousi didn’t do ALL this damage on their watch; ALL the administrations and congresses since Roosevelt contributed to it incrementally. It will take much longer than one or two presidential administrations to correct the situation and the paradigm.

May God resume blessing America...

“Again, I’m not discounting the possibly that Cain will gain more support as he gains exposure. Just pointing out that asserting that he will (or would) without considering other factors that might come into play by that time is an error in logic.”

What we do know is that this is a poll without Christie. So it seems clear to me that a significant number of those who support Christie support Romney as their number two.

I would love to see a ticket that had any two of the following for President and VP.

Palin
Cain
Bachman
Cristy (if he runs)

Their ideologies are very similar. I wish they would all sit down and talk to each other. Only one will be nominated as the Presidential candidate. They need to understand that as the field narrows to one candidate they must give open and full support to him or her. In the primary process it will be come evident fairly early who will win the nomination. They others must then band together in support of that candidate.

This is too damn important to let ego rule your actions.

My gut says she’s not “running” - rather, she’s just rallying the troops for 2012...and will then come out and endorse someone, likely Cain (who she has expressed admiration for) maybe Bachmann, or Perry if he runs (hope not).

Cain still has incredibly low name recognition

At a family gathering on Memorial Day, I was talking with a 60-ish liberal cousin from Connecticut. I don't bother to have political conversations with him anymore, but I did mention that I'm supporting Herman Cain.

My cousin, a retired high school teacher from Connecticut, said: "You mean the Pizza Guy?"

So to the extent that people outside of the conservative movement have heard of Cain, that's about all they know so far.

But most people I talk to have never heard of him.

it’s doubtful he’ll draw a noticable number away from palin no matter how much popularity he gains. he might, however get some from gingrich and pawlenty- however, if either of them drop out i’d expect their votes to split pretty evenly between palin and cain, but either one going out should bump both up ahead of romney.

Herein lies a problem for conservatives. The Republican Party is split between the establishment and Tea Party. Romney gets a free ride with the establishment, but the Tea Party is slugging it out. Sarah, Michelle, Herman, Tim.... I hope when the time comes some of the hopefuls will step aside to support a champion. We need a pre-primary to determine who will run in the primary. Then again, I think when and if Sarah announces, the Romney campaign will get deflated.

there’s probably a couple cabinet positions he’d be good for, but i don’t much care for the idea of christie as VP.

I really like Cain, but am a little concerned about him having Stage 4 cancer in both his liver and colon back in 2006. Stage 4 is pretty hard to completely eradicate from your body. Someone please prove me wrong.

I don’t know Cain’s campaign schedule.

I don't know his schedule, but his campaign does have a full time operative managing Iowa.

This is a Democrat polling outfit, so the results, no matter what they are, are suspect.

Christie is on the wrong side of the illegal immigration and global warming issues.

God bless him for what he is doing in New Jersey, but a president cannot really address the US economic situation if he (she) doesn’t actively oppose the climate nazis and illegal immigration.

Personally, I think Christie on anybody’s ticket would be a huge disappointment.

My reply to "you mean the pizza guy" is "yes, and the rocket scientist, the computer guy, and the banker."

That opens to the door talking about his time as a mathematician for the Navy designing guidance systems for ballistic missles (rocket scientist), VP of corporate data systems for Pillsbury (computer guy), and chairman of KC Federal Reserve (banker).

I have an in law that is a local branch manager for a regional bank. When I mentioned Cain's time at the Fed, he suddenly got interested. When I explained Cain's entire background, his reply was "Wow, maybe I should give him a look."

If Cain get's tagged as the pizza guy, he'll be in trouble. If his entire life story gets out, he'll make it.

I agree. But for the reasons you stated, I think that by the time the general election comes around, Cain's credentials will be pretty well known, assuming his team does a good job getting them out there.

And I think Republican primary voters will get the message long before the primaries are over.

Love Herman. Love Palin, love them all —

However, a meat loaf could be Obama after what we’ve got coming.

I say we bring on the debates and have this election early ...because we arenn’t going to make it until the fall of 2012.

"Cain is a burst of fresh air!"

Yes, he is. Now imagine...him and Lt.Col Allen West together. CAIN/WEST! Imagine the hoops the liberals will have to jump through to smear TWO black men. I see it as an exercise in futility. They can denigrate their policy stands, but the race card would be negated for the most part.

I've loved Sarah Palin since I first heard of her, and will vote for her if on the general election ballot, but she may have been damaged beyond repair from all the nonsense by the MSM. I'll await for the primary debates.

Bumper stickers:
NO MORE PAIN? - GO CAIN!
HAD ENOUGH CHANGE? - GO CAIN!
RADICAL CHANGE CAUSED THE PAIN - THE ANSWER IS CAIN!
AMERICA'S BEST - CAIN & WEST!
US VALUES STILL THE BEST! - VOTE CAIN & WEST!
THE FF'S WOULD THINK SHAME - BUT NOT WITH CAIN!
CAIN, OR MORE SOCIALIST PAIN?
