The Guerena Shooting: Initial Analysis

Wow.

Just crazy stuff. It's becoming more and more obvious that when the Authority is the hammer, any civilian within reach makes for a satisfactory nail.

You've reminded me of one time when the cops did come looking for the dude next door. He was at work with no-one there to answer; if they knocked on my door, I too was away at work. But the neighbor on the other side of him was just getting home from his job.

The 2 deputies spotted him and abandoned their futile quest for the drunk. (We're out in the sticks, 3 houses with a lot of country around and across the highway, with distinct, separate driveways.) The pair of LEOs approached the garage, then split and sidled in from either direction as if to deter him from making a break for freedom. *rolling eyes* They didn't draw down but he said they weren't far from doing it, either. Those fellas had their backs up looking for someone, anyone to tussle with.

His business office is right next to the friggin police station in town. Retired judges, LEOs & upstanding citizens shoot clays in his back 40, and he allowed the local LEOs to practice on his land until the new LEO range was built. What I'm saying is that the man is a big fish in this tiny berg. If they treated him that way, my piddlin arse ain't got a prayer.

Then again, I don't have hundreds of acres worth murdering over...

These ad hoc SWAT teams are everywhere now and while Homeland Security gave them grants for lots of toys a few years ago, they haven’t the training budgets nor the ability to function as much more than a mob when they are turned loose. Where I am, State Troopers take a weekend class and then show up for SWAT duty when the call goes out. They have special weapons but no tactical ability to function as a team and they would be better served with a class on the Constitution rather than swagger & bullying 101.

I think the same thing anytime I post anything on the Internet or speak over the phone, and almost every time that I open my mouth.

It is good policy, and a lot of people would be well served if they adopted it.

Unfortunately, I have learned this first hand and although I already knew it from too much TV, what I didn't know is the small print of, "we further reserve the right to selectively edit, rearrange and/or take out of context anything you say and let a judge and jury sort it out many years and tens of thousands of dollars down the road and by the time the government payroll cash register ringers and over-paid defense attorneys are done with you, you'll wish we'd just shot you".
