How Junk Science and Extremism Clouds Reason: The myth of groundwater pollution & Hydro-Fracking

We can all agree clean water is an absolute necessity for the survival of humanity. Furthermore, we can all agree no person, in good conscience, can promote a process that deliberately contaminates groundwater. Now that we are all in agreement, let us dispel a myth perpetrated by those opposed to energy independence: Hydro-fracking does not pollute groundwater.

Hydro-fracking is a process used to drill into underground shale deposits well below the water table and extract natural gas from these deposits.

Hydro-fracking has NEVER caused groundwater contamination. Our friends on the other side of this issue would like us to believe fracking pollutes groundwater, but this myth was dispelled by state geologist, Taury Smith.

He has studied the process of hydro-fracking for three years and has discovered not one instance where hydro-fracking caused or contributed to groundwater pollution.

Mr. Smith, a self described liberal-Democrat, who has been silenced because of his findings, concluded that the Marcellus Shale Deposits in upstate New York are the answer to the environmentalist’s fear of global warming. Hydro-fracking could tap into an estimated 100 years worth of natural gas which would help America curb its dependence on foreign oil and drive down the price of energy.

The environmentalists, as well as the Albany politicians who are vehemently against hydro-fracking, are preventing much needed job creation in New York State. The Marcellus Shale would be a boon to the state’s economy.

It has the potential to create 20,000 jobs in a part of New York that has been struggling economically. It is time for the environmentalists to stop preventing clean energy and jobs from coming to in New York……

If they start hydro facking that new field in Texas it could be a huge help to our survival of Obama.

The problem with the enviro-nazi crowd is they think their friends, the secret underground trolls, will be disturbed by the noise of hydrofracking and will be coming up to whine and complain, and we just don’t have any more money for anybody!

Everything humans do carry some risk. Even doing nothing has a risk.

As my well water will confirm, nature does not always provide crystal clear pure drinking water but with some simple filtering and treatment water can be made clean enough for even a liberal.

If we do not start drilling now, more energy will be sapped from out economy due to high fuel costs.

We need this natural gas, oil and our most abundant resource frozen methane (hydrate) which is greater than all known oil reserves past and present.

There is no source of energy that the liberals will not demagogue to death. Even wind suffers from NIMBY syndrome. Liberals goal is not clean energy but no energy.

Link doesn't work. I am on a Linkedin discussion thread of alternative energy sources with a thread called “How Long Before Fracking is Outlawed”. There are two diametrically opposed positions each claiming the other doesn't have any facts. I'd like to link this, not that it'll change any minds. I feel like Gallieo must have felt arguing against religious edict.

It is a bad link and why bother to excerpt this source?

If they start hydro facking that new field in Texas

What new field do you think is not using hydraulic fracturing already?

90~95% of all inland wells in the US will use hydraulic fracturing during their lifetime.

Most of the problems I’ve seen with fracking have been above ground issues like leaks and improper waste disposal.

The biggest problem is salt water that comes out of the wells. It must be collected and processed and is by reputable companies. It can’t be just dumped into streams or on the ground because of the salt, (not the minor amount of chemical lubricants used in the drilling process).

This is the NEW global warming. These lefties have lost the global warming scam, so now they have glommed onto “fracking” as their newest cause celeb to replace GW and drag down the country.

It is TRUE (even liberals admit it) that NO STUDY to date has found that fracking has polluted ground water. FACTS are a problem for these commies. Yet, they are winning. How many rigs have left the gulf? How many new permits have been issued? Are we drilling in ANWR yet? Are we drilling new wells off the Florida or California coasts? Are we building new nuclear (or nucular for GWB) plants? New oil refineries? And on & on & on. If we don't take back America NOW, there will be no America to take back.

There are two diametrically opposed positions each claiming the other doesn't have any facts.

Pssssssttttt!

One of them doesn't. Instead, they have wishful opinions expressed as unsubstantiated assertions.

The other actually does have facts. About sixty years worth of facts. Just because the first side doesn't like them doesn't make them invalid.

"Fracking" is one of those arguments that is entirely political. Real science and decades of actual experience somehow aren't relevant.

If it were not for liberalism, a semi-intelligent person wouln't dare espouse the left's inane theories for fear of being laughed out of town.

The liberals from Downstate (sorry if that’s redundant) oppose fracking because many of them have second homes Upstate and their precious peace and quiet might be disturbed. Sort of NIMOBY (not in my other backyard).

When I backed up and cut everything after “groundwater-” it worked. When I added “-pollution-” it worked.
When I added “-hydro-” it worked and when I added fracking/ it still worked. Why the link didn’t work the first time is one of those mysteries of computer science I sure don’t understand.
At any rate the link above should work.
