Columbia Professor and Huffington Post Contributor David Epstein Pleads Guilty in Incest Case
The Other McCain ^ | May 25, 2011 | Robert Stacy McCain

Posted on 05/27/2011 8:58:32 AM PDT by Parody

You will recall that Palin-hating blogger David Epstein was arrested in December and charged with felony incest for having sex with his adult daughter (now 24) from 2006 through 2009.

One of our readers has obtained court documents (for Case #2010NY090162) indicating that Epstein copped a plea to a misdemeanor charge of attempted incest. (Click the image to enlarge).

That ruling was on May 11 — two weeks ago — and yet I can find no news reports about Epstein’s conviction. You might think that at least the New York Times would find the disposition of this case newsworthy.

The alert reader who informed me of this previously unreported news also passed along the court documents to some members of the Columbia University faculty, resulting in this angry e-mail from Epstein’s lawyer:

From: Matthew Galluzzo
Date: Tue, May 24, 2011 at 7:17 PM

Subject: notice
To: [Redacted]

Mr. [Redacted], I am an attorney and I represent Dr. Epstein. Please be advised that he does not wish to receive any further communications from you ever again. I have already alerted the District Attorney’s Office to the emails you have sent him thus far, and should you ever contact him or me again, we will make the appropriate criminal complaint to law enforcement.

Matthew J. Galluzzo, Esq.
Galluzzo & Johnson LLP
48 Wall Street, 11th Floor
New York, New York 10005

Well, facts are facts and if Professor Epstein has now pleaded guilty, the presumption of innocence is over. Epstein is still listed as a faculty member on the Columbia University Web site.

Is Epstein’s behavior something that the university tolerates or approves?

Someone should ask Professor John Huber (jdh39@columbia.edu), chairman of the Department of Political Science, or Columbia University President Lee Bollinger (officeofthepresident@columbia.edu).

Or is he?

"When then-Sen. Rick Santorum made the reductio ad absurdum argument in 2003 that same-sex marriage would lead to legitimating bigamy, polygamy, incest, and, indeed, “anything,” Slate supported his logic, asking, “Incest repellent? If gay sex is private, why isn’t incest?”...

"In 2010, Columbia political science professor David Epstein was discovered to have been having an incestuous though consensual relationship with his 24-year-old daughter. If convicted, he faces up to four years in prison. But under the rubric of “marriage equality,” there should be no crime here, and nothing to shock. How Victorian, after all. Is the relationship unnatural? Apparently we’re beyond that."

yeah, bet she made those claims to keep daddy out of prison. I wonder if the daughter and mother are still on speaking terms. I guess if they are speaking they have something in common. eeewwwww

Good question. My guess is this was just a convenient plea that was copped in exchange for a sizable check written to an elite NYC law firm.

[ From the same twisted freaks who insinuate Southerners are rife with this kind of thing. Yet, when it’s their own, it’s some kind of enlightened state of mind that indulges in unconventional sex. ]

I wonder how many times the slime bucket claimed that the members of the tea party were “incestuous southern redneck hicks” yet at the same times engaging in incest with his very own daughter.

It would be interesting to go through his articles and see if he ever made such statement which exposes he complete lunacy and hypocrisy.

But of course he is a Lib, and libs usually have the whole: “It’s okay if i do something immoral cause I am a Liberal” thing that the MSM will forgive them for. Of course because their own group doesn’t have high moral standards they can feel free to do all sorts of taboo actions, but since we in the conservative arena hold our selves to high moral standard the MSM jump down our back like a holy jihad if someone on our side is guilty of a slight moral ambiguity or even a perceived one.

[ This is so disgusting that I almost physically feel like I’m smelling something bad. Even if it really did begin when the daughter was over 18 (which I don’t believe at all), a parent could NEVER have a truly consensual relationship with a child. That parent/child inequality will always be there. We are set up to trust and lean on our parents for our entire lives (which is why it feels so weird when parents hit old age and have to lean on us instead). I hope all his friends shun him completely and he ends up leaving the country. How horrible. ]

It is also the same reason Teacher/Student relationships are taboo along with Boss/Employee relationships. The whole inherent inequity of the power dynamic is there.

She isn’t even Woody’s stepdaughter. He never married Mia Farrow.

Soon Yi is the adopted daughter of Mia Farrow and Andre Previn. She has two parents. Allen isn’t one of them.

If the relationship “appears to be consensual” they cannot rely on testimony from the victim. Hence the cheesy plea deal.

You are correct. I forgot that Allen never married Farrow, though they did have one biological child and did adopt 2 together.

So, if may be distasteful, but that’s about it.

This other guy, though, is sick!!

As disgusting as I find Woody Allen’s marrying his stepdaughter, it was his stepdaughter, no biological ties.

If I remember correctly, she was the adopted daughter of Mia Farrow, who had lived with Woody for a long time, but I don't believe they ever married. So technically, she wasn't even his step-daughter.

He's still a scumbag, though.

Both men are amoral, but the real Dad wins hands down.

Just the thought turns my stomach.

Well heck, since she was 18, that makes everything okey-dokey!

That. Is. Truely. Disgusting.

As perverse and weird as Woody Allen’s thing is, this guy is even worse since, as I understand it, he is the girl’s natural biological father.

Plead guilty. That's just absolutely repulsive.

As a man, I can't imagine looking at a kid, let alone my own, and think...that.

Men are supposed to protect their kids, especially their daughters, from predators.

“consensual” Really? Just how consensual is it when thigns like this usually start to happen when one still should be playing with dolls and all of the emotional damage and the wanting of approval that acts like this carry?Someone should do somethign really awful to him to make sure he can’t do this anymore!

Based on the lawyer’s reasoning that Epstein’s daughter was an “accomplice” rather than “victim,” can the FL prosecutors use the same argument for Casey Anthony? (of course, the claim there is that the abuse started when she was 8 years old).

If Casey Anthony was molested by her father and/or brother why didn’t she get a damn job and MOVE?!

She is a freaking liar and murderer whose family gave her way too much benefit of the doubt and financial support that she didn’t deserve for a grown woman with a child.

I keep hearing that Casey Anthony’s attorney threw that abuse line out there to create a ‘seed of doubt’ that would make it difficult for a jury to convict her ‘beyond a shadow of a doubt’ which is required of capital offenses. They may have done better and been more on target with an insanity defense. She is absolutely nuts. And a murderer of her own beautiful child whose offense seems to have been getting in the way of her mother’s social life. Just too tragic for that little girl.
