You will recall that Palin-hating blogger David Epstein was arrested in December and charged with felony incest for having sex with his adult daughter (now 24) from 2006 through 2009.
One of our readers has obtained court documents (for Case #2010NY090162) indicating that Epstein copped a plea to a misdemeanor charge of attempted incest. (Click the image to enlarge).
That ruling was on May 11 — two weeks ago — and yet I can find no news reports about Epstein’s conviction. You might think that at least the New York Times would find the disposition of this case newsworthy.
The alert reader who informed me of this previously unreported news also passed along the court documents to some members of the Columbia University faculty, resulting in this angry e-mail from Epstein’s lawyer:

To: [Redacted]Mr. [Redacted], I am an attorney and I represent Dr. Epstein. Please be advised that he does not wish to receive any further communications from you ever again. Well, facts are facts and if Professor Epstein has now pleaded guilty, the presumption of innocence is over. Epstein is still listed as a faculty member on the Columbia University Web site.
Is Epstein’s behavior something that the university tolerates or approves?
Someone should ask Professor John Huber (jdh39@columbia.edu), chairman of the Department of Political Science, or Columbia University President Lee Bollinger (officeofthepresident@columbia.edu).

David Epstein, 46, was charged Thursday with one count of third-degree incest. Police told the Spectator that the relationship appeared consensual.
Epstein is currently on administrative leave.
According to the New York Daily News, Epstein and the woman had a three-year sexual relationship and often exchanged “twisted text messages.”
The Spectator reports that Epstein is married to another Columbia political science professor, Sharyn O’Halloran, though a recent update to his Facebook page says he is single. The couple was featured in a 2008 Spectator article about professors who “bring love to work.”
“Our complementary skills lead to a great partnership,” O’Halloran told the Spectator.
LOL, when I first saw the photo I thought, “This guy looks just like Woody Allen, and his daughter is also Asian, like Woody’s.....wait a minute ....... OH, that IS Woody Allen.”

This is so disgusting that I almost physically feel like I’m smelling something bad. Even if it really did begin when the daughter was over 18 (which I don’t believe at all), a parent could NEVER have a truly consensual relationship with a child. That parent/child inequality will always be there. We are set up to trust and lean on our parents for our entire lives (which is why it feels so weird when parents hit old age and have to lean on us instead). I hope all his friends shun him completely and he ends up leaving the country. How horrible.

How can acts of incest that extended for 3 years be plead down to “attempted” incest? Was he unable to complete the act?
From the same twisted freaks who insinuate Southerners are rife with this kind of thing. Yet, when it’s their own, it’s some kind of enlightened state of mind that indulges in unconventional sex.
