Until 2 weeks ago I had never heard of Herman Cain. I am sure many others in this country have never hear of him as well. When he establishes himself as a viable candidate the polls will change. I haven’t felt this bad about the country since the Carter years. We need a candidate that will point out how much the dems have run this country down.

Cain needs to win a local race first, maybe a House seat somewhere, then maybe something statewide. He’s going to have to come up through the system like pretty much everyone else

LOL, the minor leagues has such a proven record of producing top quality major league talent in politics.

That's why the country is in such awesome shape!

Yep, it was the same for Obama as well.

When he establishes himself as a viable candidate the polls will change.

Exactly. He's been in the race for all of 3 days.

“Sad for the country that no one leads obama. Another 4 years of the commie and the stupid voters won’t recognize America.”

Don’t worry so much. It’s a looong way ‘til Election Day.

I expect the polls to change quite a bit by then! ;-)

Then, 27% of GOP primary voters said they would never vote for Romney compared to just 9% who say so now.

Interpretation:
The RNC/GOP elites know that, so they really don't care what the conservatives/TeaParty members do. Look how many voted for McCain in 2008. Most of them will stay loyal and vote for Daffy Duck, if he is the GOP nominee.

I am not endorsing Huntsman at all. I just don’t like Romney and want him to run because he will split Romney’s base and open the door for another alternative. IMHO, there is no chance that Huntsman can get the nomination.

The fact that Obama has > 10% approval rating is proof that our country’s best years are far behind us.

He is still hovering around 52% approval. That still gives him a majority, depending on whether the GOP actually nominates a real challenger or just a stand-in with hopes of a better chance in 2016.

Soooo, winning something is now considered to having the credentials to be a valid presidential candidate?

Pretty much, yes. Other than a couple generals (who won wars), all of our Presidents have proven they can win elections on the local or state level first. Running for office itself takes skill. If it didn't, I could think tens of thousands of great conservatives who I wish could run for President.

Whatever happened to accomplishments?

I think your just being naive here. Again, running for office is a skill in and of itself. This is why tens of thousands of very accomplished and wonderful conservatives can just be presidential candidates. Not just anyone can run and have any chance of winning. Oh sure, people say they want a regular person to run, but that regular person will get buried in debates against a polished politician. Winning elections takes political skill, Cain has not demonstrated he has that at all.

Obama had NO ACCOMPLISHMENTS either as a State or US Senator and how's he working out for ya?

Yes, Hussein is awful. But your proving my point. Being a capable politician itself is half the battle. Being right isn't enough. Obama is a skilled, polished, savvy and clever politician. He would destroy Cain in any debates.

Cain can be taken seriously after he puts in his time on the local and state level and demonstrates he has the ability to actually win elections.

Obama would flat out destroy Cain in a debate. Cain is nowhere near ready to deal with the kind of issues that will come up in a presidential debate.

Yes. He choked when Wallace asked him about the Palestinians on Sunday's FoxNews Sunday.

He isn't ready for prime time, especially on foreign affairs. [I think that bandwagon will be a tad more successful than the Thompson 2008 one, but it won't get very far.]

Even FReepers look at these numbers and all they take away is ‘nobody is leading Obama’? What the heck is wrong with everyone?

Obama isn’t breaking 50% against ANY Republican candidate. That is what is important about this poll, not whether a Republican is beating him. How the hell would anyone be beating him when we haven’t even had a primary yet? Where the hell is everyone’s head?

“Obama is ahead of Cain, 46%-38%”.

...this is interesting. Most definitely the “Cain’s an Uncle Tom” crowd.

$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$

No. Most definintely not.

A lot of voters have no idea who Herman Cain is or what he stands for.

That will change, and quickly.

He beat Slick Willie in a town hall 15 years ago. He cleaned everyone's clock in the first GOP debate. He's just getting warmed up and he can handle Obama.

But hey let's dwell on one question in an interview ad nauseum

We've had great presidents and horrible ones. Half the battle is being a skilled politician. Without that skill one has no chance to be president in the first place.

Herman Cain would stand exactly zero chance of beating Obama. And in a debate, Obama would simply destroy Cain in absolute embarrassing fashion.

Cain is a great guy, his heart is in the right place and I'm guessing he'd be right on most all the issues, but he has not yet developed the political skills necessary to make a serious run for President. He can run and win for some local office first, then maybe something statewide. Prove he can win elections, develop the skill to run for higher office and then take a stab at the Presidency.

I'm watching Pawlenty closely. On the surface he seems like a very good candidate to me.

The fact that he is an Evangelical Christian who has run and won in a Blue state is very appealing.

Need to find out more about his stances on the issues before I commit though.

Looks like the numbers reflect who has had favorable press from the MSM. It's going to take someone that can and is willing to slap Obama around in a debate. Obama has had a pass from the MSM that will only be overcome by an opponent that pounds his failures over and over, and gets in his face. The squish opponents will get favorable press from the MSM, but they'll lose just like McCain. Money and the press will back the squish, so it's unlikely the primaries will produce a meaningful nominee to oppose Obama. We'll get hijacked in Florida again by Jeb Bush and company, and it will be time for a third party.

Actually Cain has won a lot of offices. They’re called boardrooms, CEO jobs, chairs. And guess what - he EARNED them- and once in the job he excelled. Every time.

No, I am just old school. I believe people need to have actually DONE something in order to become my president.

I understand what you're saying. In my opinion, American politics has become nothing more than a popularity contest where, to use your description a skilled, polished, savvy and clever politician means more than past accomplishments.

It's sad that most people can tell you who got kicked off the Survivor Island last week, but they can't tell you who The Speaker of The House is.

It's shear laziness. They want Katie Couric et al to TELL them how to think & feel. Which is exactly why people such as Obama can succeed.

I like what Herman has to say for the moment and it's enough for me to pay attention. We'll see what tomorrow brings.

Pure Zogby rot. No one in GOP field leads The Usurping Marxist Onada because there are so many GOP candidates. This will all sort out—indeed it already is. Daniels, Huckabee and Trump out. Not sure where Huntsman came from, but I don’t see him lasting long. Gingrich and Romney I don’t believe will survive long enough to get to the primaries. If they do, they be tossed fairly early in the process. Only Romney’s money will enable him to linger—like the bad oodor he is. Paul is a nonstarter, but his bots will keep his name in the game. Notice I said name.

It is important that Tea Party conservatives not be discouraged by all the disinformation being dished up by Onada’s propaganda organs, GOP RINOs and libertarians. Only a Tea Party conservative can defeat Onada or a surrogate. RINOs and libertarians who cannot bring themselves to vote for a conservative candidate will be responsible for another four years of leftist dictorship in this country. Tea Party conservatives will not vote for RINOs or libertarian candidates.

You all can pretend that neither Palin or the Tea Party are relevant. But when the time is right our influence will determine the selection of the person who will oppose the demrat candidate.

I wonder what the polling data looked like in May 2003 for the democrat field versus George Bush?
