Can anyone telling me how HFCS and crystalline sucrose sugar are similar, also show me how one can obtain crystalline sucrose sugar from HFCS? They’re both glucose and fructose, after all.

The body can not distinguish between sugar from cane or sugar from corn. The body reacts exactly the same way to all sugars, by releasing insulin to digest the sugar. HCFS being cheaper, the manufacturers can give you bigger bigger quantities for the same price. But you can not blame them if you drink or eat more of the sweet stuff.

It really gets wild when you throw in beet sugar. The problem with HFCS is that it's in EVERYTHING we eat, and thanks to our busy lives, what we eat is processed or prepared, and we eat large quantites of it because its inexpensive. Eating healthy is often time consuming and expensive, especially for urban dwellers. Personally I'm trying to stay away from all of this kind of processed food as much as possible, and when I do consume sugar, as an additive, it will be this:

On a purely personal note, I, for one, am convinced this stuff is poison.

Since there is there is no chemical bond between them, no digestion is required so they are more rapidly absorbed into your blood stream.

This article is total quackery. How does the body split the disaccharide without digestion? How does it absorb fructose without the conversion to glucose. Is 'Mark Hyman' Michelle Obama's pen name? The body converts excess calories to fat. It doesn't matter what type of sugar..sucrose, HFCS, lactose, ect...

WHAT?! You are telling me that DNA is indigestible?
And, I bet you don’t believe in the Easter Bunny either?

"An FDA researcher asked corn producers to ship a barrel of high fructose corn syrup in order to test for contaminants. Her repeated requests were refused until she claimed she represented a newly created soft drink company. She was then promptly shipped a big vat of HFCS that was used as part of the study that showed that HFCS often contains toxic levels of mercury because of chlor-alkali products used in its manufacturing.(i) Poisoned sugar is certainly not “natural”."

Really, the bad thing about HFCS is that it made adding sweetener easier and cheaper for the food manufacturers.

I consider this a good thing. It makes food cheaper and it is still an individual's personal responsibity to monitor their own consumption of calories.

The corn syrup group became morbidly obsese, while the sugar group maintained normal weight.

If the sucrose group was eating more calories than expending, they too would gain fat.

Fructose and sucrose are both poor substitutes for food. This article contains a few shreds of truth but, far and away, the biggest reason for obesity, diabetes, and all the related maladies is excess grain consumption, period. We see most of the same syndromes in horses fed too much grain. Americans have lost sight of the far healthier diet of fruits, vegetables, and meat with sparing quantities of grain. If you want to lose weight, cut out the grain and you will be shocked at the results. Just ask yourself, how do we fatten livestock?? Answer; stuff them with grain.

Why not blame the parents who control the meals and who should throw the kids out the door after school - go play!
