Disappearance, then discovery leads to 'honor killing' outrage
CNN ^ | May 20, 2011 | Enas Muthaffar and Dan Morgan

When Ayah Baradiyya stepped out of the door of the large house she shared with her parents and 12 siblings more than a year ago, her parents could not have known this would be the last time they would see their daughter alive.

On her final visit, Ayah returns lifeless, wrapped in a blanket in the back of an ambulance, to be buried in the village cemetery. Thousands of people follow the procession to the cemetery or watch from the streets and rooftops.

Friends and relatives try to console Ayah's mother, who cries out in grief. Fears that have plagued her and her family over the past year are now a certain reality. Ayah will never walk the path to their front doorstep again.

These are scenes of grief and anger, driven by the brutal story of how a 20-year-old student from the small village of Surif, northwest of the city Hebron, met with death.

This is a community in shock, whose grief and anger at Ayah's murder is echoing beyond the pastoral hills of Hebron and into the West Bank.

I can’t believe CNN is actually reporting this.

An honor killing in Hebron. I’m shocked.

The fact that the Uncle thought calling it an honor killing might excuse it, speaks volumes.

“We kidnapped her. We took a car, a Peugeot 205, parked the car by the well, threw the girl inside the well and then left,” he recounts in a cold manner.

Whether she died instantly or was left suffering at the bottom of the well will remain unknown. During his interrogation, the uncle told the police that after throwing her in the well, they closed the hatch and placed a large stone on top of it.

"It is known in honor killing cases that those who commit such an act, they confess to the murder. They immediately turn themselves in to the police. He did not do that and also brought complete strangers to help him," said the colonel.

Hey, colonel! You're a worm, too! One of these days, especially given the recent stance of POTUS, Israel is going to need to scorch you and your kind off the face of the earth!

I wonder if the Uncle and friends didn’t rape her and then kill her and then try to “justify” it as an honor killing.

Interesting how lipstick, eyeliner and eyebrow shaping are apparently allowed even in that culture.

Exactly.

In that case, he wouldn’t even be lying. She did have “improper sexual relations” before she was killed.

I would call them animals, but that is degrading — to the animals of the world.

That's what I was thinking. They hid the evidence. But local law probably requires a huge burden of proof, like four witnesses. Too bad the police can't just turn the uncle and his friends over to the girl's family and neighbors to exact punishment.

Hebron. Didn’t I read just the other day about a Jewish massacre there?

Of course CNN reported this. They put the slant on it that these nice Palestinians living there are trying to reform.

That’s Horse Hockey, but CNN probably believes it.

Yeah right sure this stuff is totally unheard of and always causes outrage in that society. Pffffft how can they not implode under their own stupidity. Oh yeah because we fund this crap. Let them eat sand the pieces of Sh!t.

At the same time the locals think highly of torture, so the Uncle and his buddies aren't out of the woods. I suspect we will eventually see one o them without part of his skin covering, and the others will be confessing.

Once the Moslems get their four witnesses, that's it for all of 'em.

The progressive left fear the religious right in this country who have not lopped off heads, stoned women, raped and abused women and children, strapped bombs to thier kids backs, and celebrated and encouraged honor killings. I guess when it comes to choosing sides they may be mentally disabled?

Yes, it seems like there should be more to this story.

And do we like how the police held the fiance in jail for 35 days as a suspect?

The poor girl, what an awful end.

A ‘’religion’’ that allows for the killing of the most innocent among it is no religion at all. Islam is what I’ve always said it is ; a crude religion for barbaric people. This anachronistic throw-back to a dark and distant time in human history that as no place in the modern world.
