Obama 'disrespected' Israel, threw it 'under the bus,' says Romney By Michael O'Brien - 05/19/11 03:29 PM ET
President Obama "disrespected" Israel and threw it "under the bus" in a wide-ranging speech on the Middle East on Thursday, GOP presidential contender Mitt Romney charged.
Romney strongly criticized Obama, who, in a speech at the State Department, called for Israel to return to its border lines as drawn before the 1967 Arab-Israeli war.
"President Obama has thrown Israel under the bus. He has disrespected Israel and undermined its ability to negotiate peace," Romney said in a statement.
"He has also violated a first principle of American foreign policy, which is to stand firm by our friends," added the former Massachusetts governor.
Romney led Republicans in criticizing the Obama speech, which touched on broader themes throughout the Middle East, including the popular movements for democratization, from Egypt to Yemen, during the first half of the year.
"President Obama has betrayed Israel and made a grievous mistake by suggesting borders of Israel go back to pre-1967 borders. This is an outrage to peace, sovereignty of Israel, and a stable Middle East," former Arkansas Gov. Mike Huckabee (R), a 2008 Republican presidential candidate who's been a staunch supporter of Israel, said in a statement.
Rep. Allen West (R-Fla.), meanwhile, suggested Obama's stance could represent "the beginning of the end as we know it for the Jewish state."
Former House Speaker Newt Gingrich, another Republican presidential candidate, declined to comment on the Obama speech during an appearance on the Rush Limbaugh radio show this afternoon, explaining that he hadn't yet been able to listen to the speech or digest its contents.
The political battle lines emerged quickly on Thursday afternoon after Obama's speech, especially after Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu rejected the president's call for a return to 1967 borders.
Netanyahu will meet with Obama on Friday at the White House, and he'll stay in Washington over the weekend before addressing the AIPAC conference Monday and a joint meeting of Congress on Tuesday.
Obama ‘disrespected’ Israel, threw it ‘under the bus,’ says Romney...he added, “I can do the same thing 1/3 cheaper and with less personnel costs.”

Good for Romney! If Sarah does not run, he will get my vote. And, talking about voting, could we have a discussion on Romneycare? He could do a lot to clean up his campaign.
Too bad it would cause such outrage if someone prominent were to “call a spade a spade”.
I hope Congress gives Bibi a standing ovation before, during, and after his address.
Did he actually say “disrespected?” Does he not want to be President?
That's his best pitch.
Screw Obama!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!1

OOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO
Oh man. When you can’t even give a person props for doing the right thing, you marginalize yourself as nothing more than a sour crank. One does not have to be a Romney supporter to be gracious when he does the right thing, as he did here.
I hate that word.
Poor choice of terms. Obama isn't disrespecting Israel - he obviously is seeking Israels destruction.

Worst. President. Ever.
I do wonder if he checked with his lawyers before answering that :)
Sometimes good conservatives determine that some slime ball is such an evil politician trying to take over the party that they don’t have to praise him for some meaningless, campaign statement.

Still, I'm glad Romney made a statement.
Wow, you go straight from a conservative to one of the most liberal candidates running? You’re cheap.
Netanyahu should understand zero no longer speaks for Americans. He knows as much about international politics as he does about the economy and finance.
Once burned, twice shy. He's going to flinch every time someone asks him a question
I find Romney's statement to be wholly inadequate, though at least he's on the right side of the issue.
Romney's doing what robots do....repeating after everyone else without no critical thought of their own behind it.

Beautiful!

I will not ever try to dissuade any of you from your dearly held beliefs (I could far better tolerate a libertarian than a leftist), but I found Gov. Romney to be engaging and intelligent in person. I assume it is his pragmatism most of you find alarming, but I would not fear his election were he to be elected. He is also strong on the military which is a subject near and dear to my heart. A strong America is a safe America. An employed America is a happy America. He, at the very least, would have a better chance of keeping us free and strong than the current occupant of the Oval Office. I'd bet the farm on that!
“Disrespecting”??? Are you kidding me? Obama just betrayed Israel and sanctioned its destruction. Romney is a loser!
Our resident Nitwit in the White House is over the edge.
The Obama administration can’t even get the Israeli’s to stop building settlements now they want Israel to give a huge portion of their land away? What are the demands on the Palestinian’s?
BTW. Who made Barrack the Emperor of the World? Where does he get off telling a sovereign nation what to do with their land?
The utter foolishness of this idiot administration is on full display. Can’t even produce a workable budget but now Obama is going to solve complex foreign conflicts that have continued for thousand’s of years.
You got that right. FUBO!! FUMR!! Not on my watch!!
If you have a good suggestion for a candidate, other than Sarah, I would like to read your opinion because quite frankly I'm getting very depressed.
Hopefully, Netanyahu will speak to Congress and then get on his plane and fly home, leaving zero cooling his heels waiting for him. I’d send a courier with a “Kiss my ass” message to zero if it was me....red
Netanyahu as well as all Jews living in the US should shun O’bummer and tell him to buzz off but that will never happen as we all know.
Is that why no Romney family member has ever served in uniform since they arrived here? Or am I wrong? Talk is cheap!!
Yet this man would bask in the publicity and acclaim of a ‘meeting of the minds’ with the madman Obama. If this man wins the Republican nomination, we would end up with the sour feeling we’ve been ideologically raped for the sake of an amicable capitulation (he’d call it a needed rational action - best we can do) to Obama’s devolution of this country.
Other than Sarah?
1st choice, Cain.
2nd choice, Bachmann
3rd choice, Daniels
4th choice, Santorum
5th choice, Paul
6th choice, Pawlenty
7th choice, Romney
If I didn’t mention a candidate it is because (in the primary) I would never support him.
Does everyone love you yet Barak the appeaser?!?

And you wondered why Obama was celebrating with that wagu steak that cost over $100 a pound!!
He thought he couldn't lose on this job ~ just kill some Jews, spend some money, and homefree ~
Dante says it's really cold when you get toward the middle. We may presume Obama got pretty tired of that sort of thing hanging around Chicago so many years ~ decades even! But, he will adapt, and might even get a taste for poking the many Democrat politicians who inhabit those inner rings.

What did Romney do to boost employment in MA? Companies are getting out (by the droves) whenever and however they can, in a desperate attempt to escape the horrors of Romneycare. He boosted fees through the roof, which hurts anybody and everybody trying to make a business transaction. When I sold my house in MA, the fees ate me alive—as a *direct* result of Romney’s shenanigans.
I lived in MA while Mitt was gov. Illegals moved to the head of every state handout line. He didn’t raise a finger to stop it. He failed to use his bully pulpit to speak out against gay marriage while there was still time to possibly affect the outcome. While he was gov, taxpayers funded a GLBT ‘outreach’ group that graphically taught schoolkids as young as 12 how to perform risky and disgusting sex acts. The group that exposed these pervs was legally hounded to near-death under Mitt, while the group itself escaped unscathed.
I could go on. I’ll just conclude by saying there’s nothing pragmatic about Romney. He left MA twice the hellhole he found it. I’m so thankful to be out of that corrupt, fiscally doomed basket-case.
George Mitchell, special appeaser to the ME, carried Hussein Obama's message to all the Islam countries, then resigned to get out of the media spotlight.

BTTT
Precisely!
Romney doesn’t get it.
How can we be sure this is how Romney genuinely feels about this? His sincerity is that much in doubt with me.
