This excerpt summarizes the showdown that will occur tomorrow when Senate Democrats force a cloture vote on Ninth Circuit nominee Goodwin Liu, President Obamas most radical judicial nominee and the man whom Obama would dearly like to make the first Asian-American Supreme Court justice. Lius left-wing agenda and outrageously activist view of the law makes this showdown a classic test of the bipartisan extraordinary circumstances standard for when judicial nominees can be filibustered. The standard originated in the 2005 Gang of 14 agreement.
Liu is a 40 year old Berkeley law professor whose vocal and unabashed championing of judicial activism has made him a star on the legal left. Liu envisions the judiciary as a culturally situated interpreter of social meaning and believes judges should create constitutional rights to distributive justice, including welfare rights to education or housing or medical care.
Liu has expressed left-wing views on virtually every hot-button issue likely to come before him on the bench, including the view that Americans are obligated to pay reparations for slavery, an obligation he would likely read into the Constitution. Liu is too far to the left for even Rahm Emanuel, who advised the President against making this nomination.

Goodwin Liu is the worst of all of Obama’s nominees and IMHO the DemocRATS plan to eventually put him on the Supreme Court. He says that the Constitution requires that the government pay welfare benefits and redistributes rights rather than upholding them for all. He has to be stopped now!
Even McCain is on board against this turd in the punch bowl.
The Republicans currently in office don’t have the guts to shoot this one down. Token resistance at best. Liu will be confirmed.
This man is only 40! He would be a force on our SCOTUS for DECADES! He must be stopped!
Make book that the Lugars Snowe Collins Grahm Hatch McCain Kirk ad nauseum will buckle and vote to confirm.
Spineless backstabbing trash all of them
Expect the usual panel of libtard RINO senators to fall in line to support this radical Leftist.
Calm down. This is a 9th circus appointment. That’s terrible but not nearly the killer a SCOTUS appointment would be. Fortunately, if he’s stopped now he may never be considered by a future Democrat president.
No
The spineless solons who are supposed to be on our side must fight and prevent packing the judiciary with individuals with Mr. Liu’s philosophy. They need to convey the message payback is a bravo india tango charlie hotel.
Partial-birth abortion luvin' Mark Kirk is a guranteed YES vote, even if he decides to feign "concern" about the nominee so he claim his decision later on "took a great deal of research and wasn't reached lightly". I know Kirk's record in the House and he is well to the left of McCain and Graham. Which made it all the more ridiculous for freepers to argue they'd vote for a Democrat over McCain but that Kirk is acceptable.
Additionally, you will note that Mark Kirk supported Elena Kagan’s nomination, while McCain had opposed it. BOTH were up for election to the Senate in 2010, the “McCain only voted that way because he facing voters” argument is irrevelevant.
The GOP needs to Bork this guy.
I have some good news- John McCain and Lindsay Graham have announced their opposition.
This guy is the worst of Obama’s nominees so far. He has smeared Republican judicial nominees in the past and legal writings are appalling. Here are some of the positions he advocates, including his claim that the Constitution guarantees certain people the right to receive welfare checks.

If he gets confirmed to the Federal Appealate Court and Obama is reelected, he’ll eventually be nominated to the Supreme Court. He has to be stopped now.
I’ll believe it when I see it. Never believe a RINO’s words.
Yes...he’s a dangerous liberal judicial activist....I’ve been calling & emailing senators this morning!
The GOP must block him now!
Actually, Kirk voted NO. I am losing confidence in your predictions, Billy.
Tell, why are you on this forum anyway? FreeRepublic is for conservatives and conservative issues. Meanwhile you're cheerleading for a guy who's more liberal than Hillary Clinton on abortion and to the left of Obama on envirowackoism. Shouldn't be posting on some forum where they share your love of liberals?
