Naming fleet units after politicians was a bad idea the day the keel of the Vinson was laid down, and it's only gotten worse.

USS George HW Bush, USS Reagan, and the USS Gerald Ford class of carriers have made the USS Barack Hussein Obama and the USS William J. Clinton inevitable.

The USS Nancy Pelosi is a little dingy.

I like how the Gato class subs were named after fish. We should stick to state names, cities, battle sites, Latin words etc.

At least it’s a cargo ship and not a warship. Let them use it to transport agricultural crops to the troops.

Wake me when they’re ready to christen a battleship named after Sarah Palin.

This was just posted (hour ago) on the Sec. of Navy FB page: “Just announced the name of the Navy’s T-AKE 14 will be USNS Cesar Chavez. This continues the Lewis and Clark-class tradition of honoring legendary pioneers and explorers. USNS Cesar Chavez honors the memory of the Mexican-American civil rights activist who served in the Navy from 1944-1946. Later he became a leader in the American Labor Movement and co-founded what later became the United Farm Workers.”

Obviously “the talking points”. In Chavez’ bio he says his two years in the Navy were the worst years of his life. FAIL Navy, but BO will get what he is after, the Hispanic vote.

Like Rickover said “fish don’t vote.” I’m glad he didn’t
live to see this.

Apparently during at least part of its history, Chavez’ union sought to restrict immigration and block hiring of undocumented workers.
