WASHINGTON (AP) -- Waterboarding and other harsh interrogation techniques were not a factor in tracking down Osama bin Laden, a leading Republican senator insisted Thursday.
Sen. John McCain, who spent 5 1/2 years as a prisoner of war in North Vietnam, also rejected the argument that any form of torture is critical to U.S. success in the fight against terrorism.

...sigh...
Dopey is as dopey does.
Water board McPAin !
I believe the HANDS ON MILTTARY aren’t lying when they admitted they water boarded at least TWO Muslims to get this information.
McPain RETIRE NOW.
You need to go away.
You are utterly confused.
Personally, I wouldn’t call waterboarding torture, nor keeping someone awake or standing for long periods of time, or blasting music at them. What I’d call torture would be beatings, burnings, plucking eyes out, cutting, breaking bones, starving, baking, ect.
What else would McCain say? When it comes to torture he is understandably illogical.
Someone should remind John, torture broke him. He said so himself at the 2008 acceptance speech.
OK Juan, so how DID we find out the name of Osama’s messenger?
How the F does HE know? Is he more familiar with this than Panetta? Just like an F’in Rino. Working hard to eliminate the effectiveness of arguments that give Republicans an advantage.
Dear Senator McCain,
Please sit down, shut up, and take your meds. Your dementia is acting up again.
I have heard enough from McCain. I wish he would just stop talking.
Remember when the media was backing McCain in the republican primaries as the best candidate? This was all a setup to put the weakest republican RINO in the race for Obama to beat. McCain keeps trying to negotiate with whack left philosophy. A losing play everytime!
So apparently unless we had him upside down with water running over his face when he gave up teh couriers name - it wasn't waterboarding that made him tell us!
Also - words mean things. Torture is still done in the world - and we don't do ANYTHING even close to most of what they do. Thus I think it critical to differentiate.
McCain bears the scars of the torture the Vietcong put him through - he winces every time he raises his arm to wave to the crowd.
KSM would have been perfectly physically able to play a good game of tennis a few hours after what we did to him.
Somehow I don't think the word “torture” really covers BOTH adequately. For one it is an apt description - for the other - a bit of a ‘stretch’ at best (and not on a rack).

My good friend! We really screwed those conservatives, didn't we?!
“America: Dammit John. You’ve tortured us enough already! Retire. Shut Up. Please. [oh .... and take your idiot daughter with you!]”
Amen... Amen... Amen...Amen... Amen... Amen..!
the ol’ boy is really slipping fast - keep a tank of O-two handy!!
Slightly off thread, but yesterday Glenn Beck & pals went hysterical over what purported to be Meghan McCain PSAs for skin cancer; one began with, “One day I drove around in my convertible naked!” I mean, the diet Coke was coming out of everyone’s nose.
Nothing on youtube like that.
McCain contradicts the Director of the CIA, Leon Panetta. Only one of them can be right. I believe Panetta. McCain has dementia.
And his dumbass wife is bashing Glenn Beck. Saying she’s glad he’s going off the air because there is too much hatred, etc.
I half expect McCain to endorse Obama for 2012, much as he did for the 2008 election.
Go Away you Commie Traitor!
1. Resist as much as possible.
2. Do not resist up to the point of being tortured to death. More than one pilot resisted to much and was killed.
3. Give up as little information as possible. Give them just enough to stop the torture.
Several pilots made statements denouncing our action in Vietnam. These statements were made after extreme torture was applied to these pilots. If they had not they would have probably been beaten to death.
Torture did work. Torture did get information or statements. McCain knows this full well. He is being disingenuous.
The pilots all acquitted themselves with honor and any information or statements they made while in captivity was extracted under pain of death. They did nothing wrong while in captivity. McCain was also singled out for extreme measures because his father was the commander of Naval Forces in Southeast Asia. McCain also acquitted himself with honor.
CIA Director Leon Panetta told Brian Williams that enhanced interrogation techniques, including waterboarding, contributed the lead intelligence enabling Osama bin Ladens discovery. This revelation underlines the dilemma interrogators face because terrorists remain unresponsive to direct questioning and psychological gambits. Effective interrogation necessitates applying all stress and coercion techniques our military encounters in survival schools. After a week in survival school, men in my unit reported Monday morning without any signs of the “severe pain and suffering” condemned by the Geneva Conventions.
However, a bipartisan initiative lead by Democrats and John McCain, and validated by George Bush, ensures information vital to defeat follow-on sociopathic prophets and organizations will become sacred and unobtainable. The Army interrogation manual now credits terrorists with American citizenship rights under Fifth, Eighth and Fourteenth Amendments. Requiring it to be public means terrorists have a comprehensive training manual to follow if captured.
A favorite sound bit validating this approach quotes 20 former Army interrogators saying, Prisoner/detainee abuse and torture should be avoided at all costs. That assertion becomes disturbing, when considering on 9/11 we intended to shoot down any civilian airliner, which did not land immediately, regardless of crew assertions. At what point in application of chemical, biological and atomic weapons to our society must we protect the American people at all costs?
Hee hee.
You funny.
what is he leading? the race to say something stupid?
Waterboarding is NOT “torture”!!!
We waterboard our own U.S. troops during training.
Clearly, our troops are not “tortured”.
The clowns torturing the very definition of the word, seriously would not allow the promise of or withholding of M&M’s, in the quest for information!!!!
Those ARE the operational rules as they stand today!
McCain has a unique perspective on this so I cut him slack on his opinion. I disagree but he doesn’t support waterboarding. Fine. But he is not entitled to alter facts to fit his agenda. He is a liar.
Water-boarding is not torture!
Jumping from the 100th floor of a World Trade Center tower was real torture.
...then goes on to call his daughter an anorexic visionary...
“I half expect McCain to endorse Obama for 2012, much as he did for the 2008 election.”.....
McCain is a loose cannon and very distructive to the conservative cause. He thinks he can negotiate “across the isle” with this filth.....WAKE UP JOHN AND GO HOME!
“McCain’s remarks drew immediate praise from several Democratic senators who have been at political odds with him in past campaigns.”
Big surprise. McCain desperately wants the approval of his enemies.
The best career move for McCain was getting shot down in Nam and being a POW. Never would have heard of him otherwise.
McCain....RETIRE ALREADY...thank you for your service but GO HOME and stay there.
GO HOME AND STAY THERE YOU SENILE OLD IDIOT!
Listening to McPain jump on the Obama bandwagon every month or so is torture enough for me.
I wish he would go away and take his wife and daughter with him.
Did anybody ask McLame how he knew this? Nah.
I wondered if anyone would say that here. And, rather than being the most qualified senator to speak on this subject, he might be the least qualified. People who have such intense, personal experiences with some issue aren't usually the best ones to set policy on those issues.
Does anyone recommend allowing the parents of school shooting victims to set new gun control laws?
The real headline: McCain suffering from Senile Dementia.
Of course to liberals, any coercive or unpleasant tactics (some of which don’t even rise up to the level of a fraternity hazing during rush week) are considered “torture”, especially if the President is republican.
Ding!!! You are correct, sir!
