LA Times: California Democrats rally around unions
Los Angeles Times ^ | May 1, 2011 | By Seema Mehta

Framing the union battles taking place across the nation as a fundamental attack on working Americans, Democratic leaders on Saturday accused Republicans of scapegoating public employees for political gain.

"They are intent on dismantling the very economic ladder that lifted our middle class and made California the richest and greatest state in the greatest nation in the world," Atty. Gen. Kamala Harris told thousands of delegates and supporters gathered at the Democrats' annual convention in Sacramento.

Unions were also the focus of a protest at the convention, but not by Democrats. Dozens of Republican college students marched through the gathering Saturday and chanted, "No new taxes, reform pensions now!"

Waving signs that read "Put it on my tab. I'll send it to my kids" and "Lower taxes=More jobs," the protesters confronted delegates gathered at the convention center in Sacramento.

Democrats responded by booing and chanting, "Tax the rich!"

Tax the Fat Cat Unions. They should pay their fair share instead of being so greedy.

"They are intent on dismantling the very economic ladder that lifted our middle class and made California the richest and greatest state in the greatest nation in the world,"

Unadulterated BS!!

Lying sack of stool.

Government jobs had nothing to do with the economic growth of this nation. Incredible lies spewed by this imbecile.

“They are intent on dismantling the very economic ladder that lifted our middle class and made California the richest and greatest state in the greatest nation in the world,”

Heh.

California is broke and likely to go bankrupt soon.

Were the holy unions on break from making California the richest and greatest state ever when that happened?

They lifted 10% or so while bankrutping the state, and soon, the nation.

California Democrats rally around unions

About 13% of the workforce are members of Unions. The Democrats support 13% of the population over the remaining 87%. I guess some people are more equal than others!

Hey California... it must pain you to know that so many of us will celebrate the death of your once great state. Yes it is a beautiful state... diverse in geology... rich in natural resources but sorely lacking a GOD loving soul or a scintilla of common sense.

How's that goobernator moonbeam working out for ya?

The Democrats have just added a new battlefield to their warfare against America. Having waged race war by trying to turn Hispanics over immigration, and then African-Americans over Obama's constitutional eligibility, the Democrats have now resorted to class warfare trying to turn the unions in California and previously in Wisconsin.

We conservatives understand that this tears at the very cultural and social fabric of the nation which binds us together and we deplore it. But the left despises the nationstate and especially despises America as the exceptional nation state so they have no sense of peril or feelings of remorse in what they do.

Wouldn’t call union members “ working americans”. The whole point of unions is to get out of as much work as possible.

A lot of those jobs are just “high-priced-paper-shuffling-positions” designed to keep the unions solvent so they can continue their “money laundering” to Democrat politicians.

I grew up in California in the 1950s and 1960s. It was paradise back then.

Then, in the 1970s the left infiltrated government and education, and the once golden state became a haven for the unproductive and the reprobate; a ready embracer of any off-the-wall theory or scam; a beacon for any anti-American, third-world miscreant looking for a free handout.

California is finished. It committed suicide.

Dozens of Republican college students marched through the gathering Saturday and chanted, "No new taxes, reform pensions now!"

The demonstrators aren't "the young", or "college students", or whatever wider labels the media usually uses to describe college "idealists" fighting the establishment, they are "Republicans".

I guess that economic ladder Kamala is talking about is the middle class. I don’t mind being a ladder, but all those moochers should wait until they climb off this ladder before going to the bathroom.
