Poll: Americans [46%] oppose 2012 GOP hopefuls as much as they do Obama
The Hill ^ | April 26, 2011 | Michael O'Brien

Forty-six percent won't vote for Obama, but about the same percentage say likewise for Mitt Romney and Mike Huckabee.

Forty-six percent of Americans say they definitely won't vote for President Obama in 2012, but at least as many say the same about Obama's would-be Republican challengers.

While much has been made about the number of voters who have ruled out voting for Obama, four of the Republicans hoping to unseat the Democratic president face equally strong opposition, according to a USA Today/Gallup poll released Tuesday.

Forty-five percent of Americans said they would definitely not vote for former Massachusetts Gov. Mitt Romney (R), while 46 percent said they would definitely not vote for former Arkansas Gov. Mike Huckabee (R).

That level of opposition tracks with the 46 percent who said they definitely wouldn't vote for Obama. But the president enjoys a higher number — 31 percent — who said they will definitely vote for him in 2012.

“People want real choices,”

Perhaps. This is divisive country. 35% wants socialism and will vote for Obama. Another 40% wants real conservative, but disagree who is the real conservative.

In the end, people in the middle or non-committed people will decice. They have to choose between socialism and whoever GOP has to offer in 2012.

I think best scenario would be some under-the-radar, reliable conservative nominee with executive experience, e.g. former or current governor. Somebody who is difficult to demonize. I think Huckabee, Romney, Palin (and Trump and Newt) have too much baggage. Some of the governors, maybe even dark horse (Gov Perry from Texas?) preferred.

35% of Americans believe that a poll taken in 2011 is just how the MSM spends a slow news day.

I think if Perry’s accent and mannerisms weren’t a ringer for W, he’d really be viable. But they are.

Don't believe this garbage. Like all elections the things that will drive this election is the economy. The Democrats would like it to appear the election will be close but they have lost the independents and they know it. For the Republicans we just have to nominate someone who can stand up to the liberals. The biggest mistake is to nominate some whiny RINO who wants to get along with everyone.

Trump beats the media like a cheap gong...

Nobody else in the GOP field of possibles is taking the fight to the media.

I’m sick of the nicey, nicey nonsense and polite epicures of the beltway.

A leader will lead when asked to against his desire not to (as did George Washington). Allen West is a true leader. Whether he will recognize the call or not is the big question mark right now. I eagerly await his interview with Beck tomorrow to see how he responds to what are going to be some very direct questions most everyone else will not ask.

LOL.

So “The sHill” fancies itself a political journal, does it?

Too bad the editors/scribes for Hussein over there think their readership is ignorant.

Here are the facts about that lameass analysis: the American people have had TWO YEARS of Hussein. Two. Long. Years.

I dare say not even 2 or 3 in TEN Americans could name any three so-called “top tier” candidates for the Republicans. Those who CAN name them are an exception, and even most of THEM know very little about them.

Asking this question now about a group/pack of unknowns and comparing it to the current, constantly-worshipped-by-the-media Hussein is comparing apples to oranges...or Rosie O’Donnell to Carrie Prejean...

that's the price you pay for having an overabundance of name recognition. I'll vote for anybody but Romney. He can go to hell as far as I'm concerned. He's no conservative and he isn't even really a Republican for that matter. He defended abortion, he permanently banned assault weapons, he built the model upon which Obamacare is based, and he dodged the draft by running away to France. (expletive deleted) that loser. I will not vote for him. period.

The voters are abso-effing-lutely sick unto death of the same old pols. The game players and the fast talkers and the phonies.

Apparently, everyone in the nation is resigned to being offered either a Democan or a Republicrat.

Try something new, offer a REAL choice, and THEN see what happens.

You nailed it. This is how the chattering class covers elections because it gives them the power to say who's in and out. (That's also another reason why they hate Sarah Palin because they keep saying she's out of it but she keeps reappearing at the front.)

Sixty-four percent of U.S. adults said they definitely wouldn't vote for Trump, while 65 percent said the same for Palin.

For comparison, the poll also found that 46% of Americans say they definitely will not vote for President Obama.

BTW, if you click the link for the original story on the poll, it says 63% definitely won't for Donald Trump, not 64$.

I agree about RomneyCare, that’s a no-no and I could not vote for him either, because opposition to OC is the key element in 2012. Avoiding draft comment just shows your pettiness. As for abortion, he did what he had to do to get elected in MA. Every politician has to triangulate a bit.

Huckabee raised taxes and was pro-amnesty and attacked religion of others. I will never, ever, vote for him. Rather Omaba than Huckabee.

Palin I would vote anytime, but I feel State Media managed to destroy her image permanently with the people in the middle. That is unfortunate, but such is life. We fight with the environment we have, not the one we would like to have.

I think one of the governors (Pawlenty, Perry etc) will eventually be the best nominee. Hopefully proven reliable conservative with leadership experience and without a damaged image.

Alternatively some credible tea party candidate (such as DeMint).

“65 percent said the same for Palin”

Here’s the problem, if we let the left demonize our candidates like this, then we will never have a solution to our collapse as a nation. Conservatives need to stand and fight, not let the other side select our candidates.
