Mitt Romney under siege: can the GOP’s one-time frontrunner survive?
The Daily Caller ^ | 04/21/2011 | Stewart Lawrence

Poor Mitt Romney. He already had one big strike against him — his Mormonism — even before he contemplated his second run for the presidency. But thanks to the Tea Party, he’s also under serious fire for his 2006 Massachusetts health care plan, which his conservative critics liken to Obamacare — dubbing it “Romneycare” — since both plans mandate individual health coverage and expand the reach of Medicaid...

...Obama, and his close friend and political ally, current Massachusetts Governor Deval Patrick, who says Romney’s plan is working “brilliantly,” expanding affordable health coverage to nearly 98% of the state’s residents.

The White House, of course, knows a promising “divide-and-rule” strategy when it sees one. Under withering fire from conservatives — and with a majority of independents still opposed to Obamacare — it relishes the opportunity to cite the record of the presumptive GOP nominee as evidence that its own policies, notwithstanding Tea Party charges of “creeping socialism,” are broadly in tune with voter preferences, at least in a state that’s still — Scott Brown, notwithstanding — one of the bluest of the blue.

But as polls show, Romney’s clearly paying the price with conservatives. As the second-place finisher to John McCain in 2008, he’s the GOP’s heir apparent, but, by all appearances, he seems to be fading fast. Former Arkansas Gov. Mike Huckabee, who gave McCain and Romney an unexpected run for their money in 2008, besting both in a handful of critical primaries, has been leading Romney in the polls for weeks. And that was before the party’s new gadfly, Donald Trump, entered the fray, pushing Romney to an increasingly distant third nationally, and even lower in some statewide polls...

I've said for months if he didn't admit Romneycare was a mistake that he would never get conservative support. But he didn't ask me.

If he’s the last GOP’er standing he isn’t getting my vote. I’m done with voting for candidates who are selected by the CFR.

Calling him the "frontrunner" just because he never stopped running from '08 doesn't make him an actual frontrunner.

Nonsense. We have a current muslim raised person that got elected and muslims want to destroy America.
No Rommney’s problem is he is not a republican and surely is not a conservative.
He will not be the Presidential Candidate..

Oh Mormonism...BULL!! No one cares about that. Romney is a first class, aisle crossing RINO sellout!! THAT is what will kill him with actual Americans at the polls. Conservatives stayed him in DROVES in 2008, unwilling to support or vote for Juan McCain. They would do the same with Romney. But of course, the RINO elite rulers of the Republican party will make the final determination of the nominee, as usual. And you can BET it won’t be Palin or Bachmann. Can’t have one of those “embarrassing” conservatives heading up the ticket, now can we!! After all, they haven’t “paid their dues” by sucking up to the elite, party dictators and betraying the American public.

Oh Mormonism...BULL!

I guarantee that if Mitt is the nominee, the MSM will go all out to expose the Mormon Church to all Americans, who really don't have a clue as to what the Mormon Church is all about.

Does seem strange that Mitt is not getting the traction he once did in the MSM and with the “establishment”. I guess they know he can’t win and will work on promoting Daniels or that China ambassador guy. Helping the Donald start a third party to siphon off votes ala Ross Perot is also in the cards.
