That is the mystery... I understand that conservatives have traditionally valued order. I get that. However I am convinced that an autocratic Royalist inclination has survived Jefferson and the centuries.

Yes and far too often I ask Freepers alike how is it that a ruler, any ruler over us, politician, police officer, et al having unlimited power, not a despot?

That's just it - conservatives DO and SHOULD value order - but a police state is not order. Order implies the rule of law, not the rule of law enforcement. True order is a necessity for liberty - but simply passing ever more onerous laws, while breaking the foundational one that supposedly directs everything else, is not order - it is chaos.
