I Am A Federal Employee
FedSmith.com ^ | April 6, 2011 | Kelly Arsenault

Posted on 04/07/2011 6:13:38 PM PDT by Poundstone

As we draw closer to a government shutdown, I have been reading with great interest. You see, I am a federal employee employed at Fort Drum as a civilian mail clerk. I am looking at the possibility of a furlough for as long as it takes for Congress to reach an agreement. It could be days or it could be weeks, but regardless of how long, I am more concerned at how much. How much will this affect my family? How much will it hurt us financially? The uncertainty is maddening as I, and my fellow federal workers, watch the stage show that is called Washington Politics gamble with our way of making a living.

I have almost 4 weeks of use or lose and Mrs. GBC has some things for me to do around the house. Shut it down.

People need to see that the repercussions on shutting down the government are larger than what they appear. This are working families we are talking about, not ideology.

People need to see the repercussions of running $2T deficits every year. These hurt the country. They hurt my family. They hurt the next generation. These are working families we're talking about, not ideology.

Shut it down.
Shut it down.
Shut it down.

No need to worry, Kelly - you can draw Federal unemployment while on furlough, and Uncle ‘Bama will see to it that you draw back pay when you go back to sorting mail. Enjoy your paid vacation!

Not sure, but sounds like a mail carriers union member, if so, he has killer benefits but his pay isn’t that good.

His pay would be a lot better without the gold plated benefits.

I am reading the article and it sounds like he is feeling sorry for himself for lack of opportunity in his area, been there, moved......

If you are non-essential, hope they take you back after this all blows over.

Oh. And enjoy your days off; I guarantee you’ll be paid for the days you didn’t work. That’s what happened last time.

Did you ever think about how much obamacare, TARP, GM, Fannie and Freddie and Socialist Security and Mediscam affect your family and hurt you financially?

Cry me a river, b**ch. Welcome to the private sector, where people get laid off all the time. Meanwhile, enjoy your time with the kids you chose not to abort.

Sure, there are millions of Federal workers doing good and needed jobs that will be hurt by this.

There's 1.5mil of them in the US Military.

However there's also more than a million doing good work on jobs the American people don't want done or cannot afford given the current fiscal crisis.

And we aim to put a stop to it.

The dims could end this today but they won't.

gamble with our way of making a living.

The purpose of taxpayers is not to provide jobs for government employees. The government is supposed to work for the people of this country, and the people want the government to slow down on the over-spending.

If we continue to kick the (debt) can down the road the resulting collapse will GUARANTEE that everyone’s life will be shattered. For you libs out there: Would you rather see a lot of small tremors or a few colossal earthquakes that destroy life as we know it? And, if you think it can’t happen I suggest you visit Zimbabwe.

Bullcrap. This woman, if she is furloughed, will end up having an extra paid vacation. I was a fed employee in 1995 and we all knew we would be paid retroactively, so we all lined up volunteering to be furloughed. We were right of course, and those lucky enough to have had a couple days at home got their pay just the same. This idiot girl will too, if she gets lucky.

Welcome to the private sector, where people get laid off all the time.

Much of the time it's directly related to the taxes a company has to pay to support the leeches.

This person should direct his/her anger at the incompetent Dems who wouldn’t pass a budget last year before the election because they feared it’s effect on the election. Then, after being walloped at the ballot box in November, the same stoopid Dems failed again at a budget in December because it was more important to them to repeal Don’t Ask Don’t Tell. All the while they controlled both houses of Congress. That’s the height of incompetency.
