SANTA MONICA, Calif. — Santa Monica police say an explosion has been reported near a synagogue and about 100 people have been evacuated from nearby homes as bomb experts investigate.
Sgt. Marty Fine says reports indicate that some kind of device hit the roof of a building and exploded at about 6:45 a.m. Thursday. The address of the building is for the Chabad House Lubavitch of Santa Monica, a meeting center for the Jewish movement.
The Santa Monica Synagogue is about a block away.
Fine says the type of device is unknown and it’s unclear whether the blast was inside or outside of the building.
No injuries have been reported and there’s no immediate word on the extent of damage.
FBI and Los Angeles County sheriff’s bomb experts are on the scene.

[Updated at 9:50 a.m. by Los Angeles Times: Multiple sources familiar with the investigation said the device exploded just north of the temple. Authorities were trying to determine whether the temple in the 1400 block of 17th Street, Chabad House of Santa Monica, was specifically targeted.
There were no reports of injuries.
The FBI, Los Angeles Police Department bomb squad and Santa Monica Police were all on scene.]

Chabad, getting ready to have morning service. Bomb went off inside 15 minutes before the service as to start. Back windows blown out. No injuries.

Just heard on ABC 7, this has been ruled an accident..there was some kind of mechanical failure of some kind on 18th and Broadway and I guess the piece of machinery when it exploded, landed near the synagogue
What does “Ad Mosai” mean?
I thought that it looked like a Torah scroll sticking out of that roof too. My theory was that it might have been the actual Torah blown out of the Temple - possibly out the window - by a bomb that very well could have been placed to destroy it. A bomb disguised as a Torah is possible too, I suppose. Perhaps we’ll find out in due time.
Had this happened to a Mosque, how much Christian and Jewish blood would already be running down the streets of the World?

News just out - it was a “utility” malfunction that only sounded like an explosion. The Torah looking thing is a piece of the utility pipe that really didn’t explode.

Privately I think it was heathens but thats just me.
Kind of the Jewish equivalent of Christians hoping for Jesus to return.
