Harry Reid: 'Get the job done'

By: Meredith Shiner April 6, 2011 11:36 AM EDT

Majority Leader Harry Reid issued a rallying cry from the Senate floor Wednesday morning to negotiators working round-the-clock to hammer out a spending deal: “It’s time to get the job done.”

In what Reid called “nonstop” negotiations between Senate Democrats, Boehner and the White House, there doesn’t seem to be much room left to give. Republicans have rejected a $33 billion level for cuts. Democrats rejected Boehner’s $40 billion offering Tuesday. And neither side seems ready to pass another stop-gap measure to keep the government from shutting down it’s doors.

“Our bottom line has been the same all along. It is this: We want to avoid a shutdown. We want to pass a budget that makes smart cuts – cuts that save money, but that don’t cost jobs,” Reid said Wednesday morning. “Every time we agree to meet in the middle, they move where the middle is. They said no when we met them halfway. Now they say, ‘It’s our way or the highway.’”

“People ask why this is so difficult. They ask, ‘Can’t you just get it done?’ I understand and share their frustration. But this is why it’s so tough. It’s like trying to kick a field goal through moving goalposts.”

Republicans, however, say their goal has not changed, and that is cutting as much spending as possible in the face of burgeoning federal deficits.

Harry Reid says: “Get it done—clean up the mess I left by not passing a budget last year”

That should be the headline.

Reid is such a beady eyed bimbo. He and Pelosi - so much of nothing! They had their chance to “do something” for a long time now but didn’t. What a waste of oxygen he is but, the MSM dolts are aoo over it. Nothing new.

Next to the term Sh.t bird in the dictionary one finds the picture of Reid.

Question to Reid, and Oyahoo, why did you not get this year’s budget done, LAST YEAR, when it was due and you controlled the entire legislative process??

All this drama over $7 billion? Does the media realize the government is still about $1,700 billion in the red this year? Why is it that the media never mention that when covering this kabuki theater performance?

Sorry, should have used the “sarc” tag; it was intended as a rhetorical question.

What I’d really like to see is what I posted be the GOP talking point by every single GOP member of Congress; the democrats are reluctant to trim even $7 billion of a $1,700 billion deficit. There is no way they should ever be entrusted with this nation’s finances again. Ever.

Exactly!

To drive the point home someone should fill a jar with 1,700 pennies (one for each billion), remove 7 pennies, hold them up and say "this is what the Dems say can't be cut from the budget; 7 little pennies out of 1,700."

What the left wants to avoid at all costs is to stop spending money we don’t have on their pet projects and unnecessary, unconstitutional government agencies.

No, it isn’t tough for you, Reid. For you it is “kicking the can down the road.” In another manner of speaking you want to buy your re-election (then bring your son in to continue) all the while working to bury the country in debt. By the time the country crashes, you will be wealthy enough to take your family and either move to another country or just live on a mansion on the hill, all the while watching the working man struggle to feed his family and make ends meet. Either way, what you are doing won’t impact you - only the saps who pay your wages.
