Libyan rebels, hoping for one state, prepare for two

BENGHAZI, Libya — “One Libya, with Tripoli as its capital” is spray-painted on walls around this rebel city and glides off the tongues of opposition leaders. Moammar Gaddafi will fall in a week, they predict, two at the most, and they’ll build a new country then.

But as weeks stretch into months and progress on the battlefield stalls, this rebel-held area of Libya is settling into its status as a de facto separate state.

Moammar Gaddafi will fall in a week, they predict, two at the most, and they’ll build a new country then.

And, with the explosive aid of Libyan Army artillery fire... they woke up.

I'm sure Obama was looking at a report on his desk which said exactly that before he decided to get involved.

Qaddafi is allied with separatists fighting against America's major non-NATO ally Morocco, so it is poetic justice that he should fall victim to the same kind of separatism he has supported.

They better take swimming lessons. It's a long swim to Lampedusa. Or have a taxi ready - this time from Tobruk to Egypt.

Libyan commandos have blown up infrastructure needed to syphon Libyan oil to pirate tankers.

There are unconfirmed reports about firefights between Egyptian and local AQ in Benghazi.

And Saudi envoys knocking on Ruskie and Chicom doors.
