FDA Headbangs With Condoms, Not Cigs

If young people have casual sex, they’re rock stars, as long as they use condoms. If they casually smoke cigarettes, they’re borderline criminals. According to the FDA, that is.

The FDA takes a hypocritical and overly invasive stance on two adult products: Condoms and cigarettes. The FDA’s inconsistent and excessive regulation of these adult products hurts free enterprise and represents an inappropriate extension of government in our daily lives.

This month, The Associated Press reported that condom maker Graphic Armor Inc. is releasing the first line of FDA-compliant condoms with full-color advertising graphics directly on the latex. The graphics will include images of Kiss rock stars Gene Simmons and Paul Stanley.

Even pop star Ke$ha, who just closed a deal with LifeStyles Condoms to get her face on the packaging of 10,000 latexes to throw out to her fans at concerts, knows that condoms aren’t foolproof. Her condom disclaimer is: "If it breaks, you have to name your daughter or son after me."

Besides the fact that condoms can break, reliance on condoms could encourage a sense of rock star invincibility and potentially lead to unhealthy behavior in young people. Naïve adolescents could get the wrong message from Graphic Armor’s marketing. But, an uptick in teen pregnancy doesn’t seem to worry the FDA.

FDA butts out reason

In the Indian village of Jaav, Hindu villagers color themselves in dye and smoke cigarettes to celebrate the end of winter. In America, the FDA appears convinced that smokers are just one step away from being criminals.

Accordingly, the FDA has released 36 new warning labels (it will narrow them down to nine by June 22, 2011) for cigarette packaging that will be mandatory in October 2012. On June 22, 2009, President Obama signed a landmark legislation called the Family Smoking Prevention and Tobacco Control Act (Tobacco Control Act) that gives the FDA unprecedented authority to bypass Congress and regulate the tobacco industry’s marketing, advertising and even product content.

The warning labels are designed such that they will cover about 50 percent of each cigarette pack’s surface area. So, retailers will struggle to sell the products because the individual cigarette brands will be covered by the FDA’s scare ads, infers The New York Times.

One proposed FDA label depicts a “typical” female smoker with an image of a mother blowing smoke on her baby, along with the words: “WARNING: TOBACCO SMOKE CAN HARM YOUR CHILDREN.” Another ad shows a graveyard full of tombstones with the words: “WARNING: TOBACCO SMOKE CAUSES FATAL LUNG DISEASE IN NONSMOKERS.”

The FDA’s packaging mandate sounded a tad extreme to me until I remembered that every smoker I’ve ever known has literally sent every nonsmoker within ten feet of them to the graveyard and every female smoker I’ve ever known was an irresponsible baby-hater. I’m just relieved we have the FDA to keep adults and babies completely safe.

I also realized that Americans don’t need to vote for members of the FDA like they do for members of Congress because we have the FDA’s word that it’s uninfluenced by politics and is looking out for us. It’s kind of nice that we can trust the FDA enough to do business on a handshake, just like the good ol’ days. Ahhh.

A better way

OK, so I was being sarcastic. I actually think American companies should be able to advertise their products without an extra-constitutional agency like the FDA stepping in and big-brothering them. Especially a big brother who’s a big hypocrite: The FDA seems unconcerned about middle school kids having access to kinky, rock star fun in the tunnel slides, as long as they don’t smoke on the swings.

My view is: Let consumers make their own choices and let companies make their own marketing decisions. Need and demand for products and services should dictate consumption, not an unelected and unaccountable government bureaucracy.

The FDA has been quick to use its new authority to try to ban menthol-flavored cigarettes. But, a new study published in the Journal of the National Cancer Institute shows that menthol poses no greater health risk, and may actually mitigate the risk of lung cancer by up to 30 percent, Reuters reported last week. So much for the government being an expert on the health hazards of smoking.

We need the government to effectively police the Texas-Mexico border, not excessively regulate advertising on adult products like cigarettes and condoms.

Americans should begin having public discussions about acceptable health practices in their local communities and families rather than relying on the government to make these decisions for them.

What do you think? Should an unelected federal agency like the FDA have jurisdiction over advertising on cigarettes and condoms? Or, should we leave such decisions up to individual citizens, small business owners and elected state legislatures?

Advertising on condoms? Am I the only one wondering who’s going to be READING it? And what’s next, coupons on your toilet paper?

Of course toilet paper should be emblazoned with eco-friendly messages....

Each square can have its own message and the FDA, along with the EPA - and public impute, of course- can guilt the whole of society on proper toilet paper usage.

Message examples:
“Save the planet - just two squares”
“Utilize your Gym Teacher handkerchief-don’t waste paper”
“Don’t flush”
“Can’t you just hold it?”

And many more........../sarc

The two worst agencies in Washington are the FDA and the SEC.

I’ve been surprised at how many times I’ve seen things that reminded me of that movie. Kinda spooky really.

It’s lunchtime, I’m in the mood for Fuddruckers.

Well, we know that the “government” is promoting cultural Marxism and trying to destroy all morality except government “sanctioned” morality. Morality that is moral just because the state “SAYS” so.

It is a sort of Pavlov/Skinner conditioning into The New World Order of no freedom and where the masses’ only pleasures will come from a few minutes of sexual, fleshly pleasures for there will be no other pleasures allowed. The state will dictate all thoughts and behaviors. Birth control will be in the water, so to say, so copulation will not create new subhumans....and they really don’t care if it causes disease....they will eliminate whomever—if it costs too much to keep you alive with their total control over medicine and health, you’re dead..

What matters is that sexual deviations and immorality will destroy all biological relationships and create a population in chaos (look at Britian’s underclass white population—drugs and sex and no morality—nihilism and hatred for other humans—no respect....no dignity to human beings....no family support—hatred for family members).

Cultural Marxism is created by Gramsci and friends to destroy the two pillars that made Western Civilization the greatest most successful experiment of political theory on earth. Christianity and the natural family—one wife to one man. It created the most free society and elevated the status of women which never was allowed for thousands of years. Christian society as practiced by the Jewish populations prior to Christianity did not allow their boys to be sodomized—one of the reasons for pagan hatred of the Jewish religion....it condemned their sexual behaviors. Put restraint on sex. OMG! Look at the results of that EVIL concept!!!!!

The Jews of the Book not only did that (exclude Baal) but they read to their young boys and nurtured their intellect at young ages which is when their brains are being wired. It is no accident that Jewish men filled the elite universities in 1900 by over 10% (so their numbers were restricted—this also was a cause of tremendous jealousy of the Jew) when they only were 2% of the population.

Why, oh why, did Jews become so intellectually brilliant? Was it an accident Einstein was taught violin at a young age? They valued their children and marriage and directed them into intellectual endeavors—not sexual pleasures. This channeling is being destroyed by governments now....they are channelling children into sex so that they will no longer redirect that sexual energy to great societal endeavors. This was observed by Freud who said ..”civilization is built on blocked, redirected and channeled sexual impulse, because men will work for sex.” Cultural Marxists like Marcuse inserted Freud into Marxism but took off all sexual restraint which even the sexually permissive Freud said will destroy civilizations. (But that is the Marxists intent so they can redesign man in their sick image and control every thing.)

As Schopenhauer and Nietzsche correctly understood—the Will to Power is in the genes of man. That need to dominate and control others is the main motivating factor. Thucydides understood certain facts in the nature of man: Weakness invites the dominion of the strong; Power always seeks to increase itself; Compulsion is the engine that drives history...etc.

The nature of man is immutable....there is Objective Truths....That Marx denies but the Founding Fathers embraced. It is the principles that made this country so successful. There is “God’s law” and the laws of nature—Founding principle of this country.

Now it is true that the Greeks sodomized their boys and they did produce some very intellectual people BUT their extreme hatred of women and open degradation of the body led to the most vile acts on the bodies of other humans—much like in the homosexual culture of Afghanistan (without the intellectual stimulation). In afghanistan they are illiterate and that is a society where the only joy is that of the flesh (only for men and boys), like the ugly, vile, inhumane world the cultural Marxists are trying to create.

Summarize my point....rules and regulations lead to one thing...increased power of the State....that is what Hitler did. It is what will create more rules and regulations...it is the nature of man and power. It will become totalitarian...what Marxism is all about. Either we throw off this nonsensical tyranny in our lives or it will increase like it has done in all societies until their is a total collapse....which of course is what this is all about. Destroy all morality and common sense and you have chaos. Then “they” take charge.

The New World Order....a few masters over the masses of slaves.

Somehow I missed that clause in the Constitution that authorizes the FDA to limit the speech of commercial companies.

Why don’t they print the Enquirer or a Williams-Sonoma catalog on it?

Well said. You’ve nailed the Gramscian agenda perfectly. The good news is that we can “Just Say No” to its creep. But expect war when we do.

“The FDA’s inconsistent and excessive regulation of these adult products hurts free enterprise and represents an inappropriate extension of government in our daily lives.”

Oh, dear - that’s practically a dictionary definition of the entire United States government.

How about just naming Ke$ha in the product liability lawsuit since SHE provided them to the audience?

And if a woman gets HPV and dies of cervical cancer, can her next of kin go after them (since it’s well known but a well kept secret that condoms don’t prevent the spread of HPV)?

Somehow I missed that clause in the Constitution that authorizes the FDA to limit the speech of commercial companies.

Something in a twisted interpretation of the 'general welfare' clause, imho.

It is part of the Alinsky tactics used against commercial ventures. (Define, Isolate, defame, destroy).

With tobacco, it started in the sixties with limiting advertising, (and raising taxes), then eliminating TV ads (and raising taxes), then virtually any ads (and raising taxes), to forcing tobacco companies to pay for antitobacco ads (and getting a huge 'settlement' and raising taxes), etc.

Of course, there are those who get hung up on the "eeeevil" whatever, and blame the provider for the decisions of the consumer, because that takes individual resposnibility out of the picture.

So, it is the tobacco/drug/oil/nuclear/auto/coal/chemical/(your favorite people to hate)/Bush's fault, and not that of the consumer who chose to use the product in the first place.

This makes lawyers richer, but America poorer.
