The title of the article is misleading to say the least. DeMint gave an intelligent answer to the question he was asked.
We just need options specifically people who have never been in office.
We just need options specifically people who have never been in office.
Perhaps DeMint sees more than most of us see...I bet you he actually knows Mitt Romney...do you?
I see that the Republicans are hard at work in the back rooms planning to snatch defeat from the jaws of victory.
“It bears repeating, though and emphasizing.”
Yep.
I have a feeling that it wasn’t simply Romney’s backers behind Rubin’s article- I would bet that people in the House and staffers were also involved to try to take the heat off their decision to not defund Obamacare (e.g., “DeMint’s okay with the individual mandate in Romneycare, so what’s the big deal, Tea Party people?”). Pathetic attempt.
Actually Romney vetoed 8 provisions but he was overridden. It didn’t much matter what he did because the Legislature had the votes.
I support DeMint, but not Romney.
Mitt’s candidacy should be DOA for a party whose main issue is repeal of Obamacare.
Everyone’s entitled to the occasional indiscretion, some of which are seemingly inescapable. I’ll cut DeMint the same slack I cut Sarah for McCain 2010.
If DeMint does not distance himself widely and immediately
then he deserves the ridicule and scorn he has coming
from conservatives (and love from the MSM and the DNC).
Disappointed, yes. Am I gonna’ kick him to the gutter? No.
He’s all we’ve got at this time and I think he’d make a fine President.
My tagline will remain and I will continue to support him.
I have no idea what’s going on behind the scenes, but one thing I do know — there’s a hell of a difference between Demint and Lindsey Graham. If Demint is not conservative enough to qualify as a Republican, then we might as well make the party a private club, and forget about elections. :-)
I am no fan of Romney but would vote for him if he is the candidate. De Mint is not beholden to the Tea Party and has a right to believe what he wants.
What is the problem?
He forgot to have his thoughts approved by the Bureau of Acceptable Thinking.
I don’t know the background or relationship (do they go way back?). But I am more than willing to cut him some slack here. DeMint is a rock-solid conservative.
Plus Mitt has no shot anyhow.
Never forget that (the untrustworthy statist, the RINO) DeMint,
supports me and (my carpetbagging fascist experiments,
TARP, IAG, Soros,) RomneyCARE, ObamaCARE, and my Death Panels.
> “...supports...”<
Ignoring the other stuff, I’ll point out that the word ‘supports’ is in the present tense. Has Demint endorsed anybody for 2012? I don’t think so.
On second thought I won’t ignore it. Demint, as many previous stories have shown is not an “untrustworthy statist” or a RINO, and specifically — as the quotation Qbert and I posted — he does not support “RomneyCARE, ObamaCARE, and my Death Panels” (which, of course, Romney himself didn’t say either).
“I think it’s important to recognize that that’s not where we want our healthcare to go. States can compete with different plans, but we shouldn’t have anything like what they did in Massachusetts at the federal level.” [Demint]
