Snow blankets Japan's tsunami deadlands

Wed, Mar 16, 2011

TOKYO, JAPAN - A blanket of snow covered disaster areas of northeast Japan on Wednesday, amid a cold snap in the debris-strewn wastelands created by last week's quake and tsunami catastrophe.

Survivors and rescue crews - already facing an acute lack of water, supplies and fuel, power blackouts and poor telecommunications - had their troubles compounded by snow flurries over roads and rubble.

Temperatures in the worst-hit Iwate, Miyagi and Fukushima prefectures fell sharply to near zero degrees Celsius (32 degrees Fahrenheit), and the meteorological agency forecast a drop to minus five degrees C Thursday.

The dreaded effects of global cooling.

I don’t mean to make light of a dire situation, but if they had a heat snap over there, you couldn’t keep Algore away from a TV camera.

With the way the media is hysterically covering this, I wouldn’t be surprised if the snow is called nuclear winter.

Wow, Mother Nature kicking ‘em while they’re down.

Snow's a mercy when fresh water is otherwise unavailable.

so anyone still trapped in rubble or even holed up in shelter without supplies is likely dead from hypothermia and thirst

Northern Japan went from leading industrial nation to Bangladesh in less than a week

I live in southern Japan , far from all the devestation and misery . We live a relatively humble life down here in Kyushu , but compared to those in Sendai , Fukushima , etc ...I feel like I am living the “ life of Reilly “ right now ...Appreciating very much what we have .
