9/11 Firefighter Helps Forge Final Battle to Stop New York City 'Ground Zero Mosque'

In a last-chance effort to stop the so-called "Ground Zero Mosque," opponents were in court Tuesday arguing the building where the mosque is to be built should be a historic landmark -- thus making it ineligible for new construction.

"Why did they insist on building this mosque on the graveyards of our friends?" asked New York City firefighter Tim Brown, a 9/11 survivor who was among those that brought the lawsuit to New York State Supreme Court, along with the American Center For Law and Justice. "I'd like it to be an historical landmark to teach America about what happened here," Brown told Fox News.

The suit maintains the 152-year-old building should have been declared an official landmark by the New York City Landmarks Preservation Commission. It claims the project's developers colluded with the administration of New York City Mayor Michael Bloomberg to push the project through in a move of political correctness, and allow the construction of an Islamic center in the shadow of Ground Zero. ...

If people get behind making this building a historic building, then they can halt the Ground Zero Mosque Building -- at least for the moment (they might find another site).

I can understand why he is doing this, but New York City's historic landmark laws are an outrageous abuse of government authority and have no place in a free nation.

Imagine being told that the home you own is a "historic landmark" by some government bureaucrat -- which means you can't build a new, much-needed addition on the back of the house to add another bedroom.

Q: Ground Zero mosque?
A: Zero mosque ground!

I would rather go against principle and work to prevent the ground zero mosque than stay with principle and allow the ground zero mosque to be built.

A building that is 152 years old near ground zero dates back before the Civil War...

This is the kind of thing for which historic preservation laws were intended. I live in an “historic district” in my town, and I agree that the restrictions on private dwellings can sometimes be annoying.

However, this is a commercial building that actually is historically important (aside from the fact that I used to buy coats there a few years back!), one which did add to the character of its neighborhood, and one that has added modern significance that would be completely transgressed and even mocked by being turned to a new use as a mosque or Islamic center.

And Bloomberg definitely did collude to prevent these issues from even getting a serious airing before the landmarks commission and to force the decision he wanted. I don’t know why he is so wedded to Muslims.

“Last Chance”?

Maybe by following a twisted legalistic procedure it is...but “last chance?”...by no means..

This whole 911 mosque debacle has made me ashamed of my country. And just to be clear no mosque should be established anywhere near the 911 site - ever.

I predict — street vendors selling lard and bacon-bit balls to tourists, many of whom would show up just to hurl such brickbats at such an abomination.

“I don’t know why he is so wedded to Muslims.”

A few months ago was posted an article about how Bloomberg was in bed with UAE financing the development of software in support of Sharia finance. Article alleged there would be literally billions of dollars involved in said software.

Bloomberg is willing to sell out his country, and his fellow countrymen for more billions of dollars.

Instead of whining, pour pig fat all over the area.

Have a big rib-fest in the area and air-drop everything that remains on the site.

“Have a big rib-fest in the area and air-drop everything that remains on the site.”

Excellent idea.

In fact, restaurants can contribute to the cause by packing up and sending in their pork leftovers, which will also be air-dropped.

Obama is pushing for the Mosque, as well as a “cultural center” in the 9/11 memorial that blames the US for the attacks (Both the idea that we had it coming as well as troofer theories).

Forget all the dance around. The Muslims destroyed an American symbol of free enterprise and American ingenuity and want to replace it with a mosque of their own. What a great symbol of Muslim victory over the United States that would be!

Will the site of the World Trade Center ever be rebuilt and, if so, will it become a taxpayer money pit for union jobs like the Great Dig in Boston?

Patriotic Americans must resist this on that basis alone. It is another cooperative effort between the Left and the Muslims.

I don’t know why he is so wedded to Muslims.

He has had (large?) investments in Abu Dhabi for several years. Looking over one's shoulder, one can speculate that he was deliberately enticed and embroiled by "someone" for precisely this end, to compromise him and turn him into a tool of the enemy.

(Art.) .....and allow the construction of an Islamic center in the shadow of Ground Zero

Wrong way around. The Islamic "center" (more correctly, a rabat) is intended to cast its shadow on Ground Zero.

A rabat is an occupied Islamic victory monument and garrison keep.

After a victory over a neighboring tribe, Mohammed's warriors would build a rabat in the center of the enemy's territory to occupy it, keep a garrison and receive mobile bands of Islamic warriors, and give the warriors a place to R&R between further raids of conquest and terrorization.

Every single person involved with this project should be either deported (if an alien) or severely punished.
