...while others are turning a blind eye.

I think that explains the "stoic Japanese" more than all the other explanations I've heard.

Yesterday Rush was going on and on about how the people in Tokyo were "golfing and going about their lives". I couldn't think of the phrase but "while others are turning a blind eye" seems to fit nicely.

That would be all Japan would need is for Fuji to erupt too.

There is precedent for it too, Fuji erupted about 30-40 days after the last Major quake in the affected area.

I am flabbergasted the president is actually going to South America while the Middle East, North Africa and Japan are in the middle of major crisis. It’s mindboggling. He postponed important trips before for health care vote, didn’t he?

Yesterday there were many reports of several trains just disappearing. ( including a bullet train) Has anyone read anything more about it? Seems to me the trains would have been swept INSHORE..and when the waters receded, they’d be pretty visible..

EXCELLENT map- I’m always looking for good maps.

Which book is your favorite? I know - so hard to choose. His vocabulary is exquisite. I think I’d have to pick The Professor and the Madman just because I’m an English language freak. Sadly, the OED will never be printed again - digital copies only. Winchester just started working on his first screenplay (for The Man Who Loved China.)

I’ll shut up now.

Pray for a Miracle... that the radiation cloud will turn around and go out to sea.

Pray for Divine intervention on the nuclear plants.

Bunny...awesome...thanks for the map...that’s similar to what he showed. He pointed out that it’s the FOUR CORNERS of the Pacific..and that’s the only corner that hasn’t had a quake yet..also, that they are going in clockwise order....

Hold that thought.

I just keep flashin’ back to the “Every action has an equal and opposite reaction” thing.

Of course, I’ve also got this splendid view of the North Rim of the Yellowstone caldera through the kitchen window, so if that “reaction” happens a bit east of the Pacific coast......

Professor and the Madman. I read the Man Who Loved China last year. They are all so well written and educational.

Check his bibliography on Wikipedia. It’ll make you want to make a run for the library. :)
