Geneseo Police Officer Benjamin Swanson arrested Miguel Merino De-Jesus, age 24, from Mexico and Jose Sanchez, 30, from Mexico as illegal aliens on Feb. 28.
When Officer Swanson stopped Merino De-Jesus on South Street for a traffic violation and he attempted to check his drivers license, Merino De-Jesus was unable to show any identification, nor could his passenger, Sanchez.
The U.S. Border Patrol responded to Geneseo and took custody of Merino De-Jesus and Sanchez. Both were transported to Rochester to await an immigration hearing.
About two hours later on the same day Geneseo Police Officer Daniel Piedmonte arrested Abacuc Arguelles-Cordova, age 16, from Mexico and German Gomez-Arguelles, age 18, from Mexico as illegal aliens.
Officer Piedmonte was called to the Wal-Mart parking lot on a matter relating to a companion of the two men. When speaking to both subjects, he learned that neither subject was legally in the country. Again, U.S. Border Patrol traveled to Geneseo and transported both back to Rochester for an immigration hearing.
In all four cases, the subjects gave their correct names, although at Wal-Mart one started to claim his name was otherwise, then reverted to what he said earlier. The same subject began to speak English, then stopped.
Geneseo Police Chief Eric Osganian advised that his department needs to take precautions when detaining persons in situations of this sort, lest it be accused of racial profiling.

We definitely wouldn’t want any police guys being accused of “racial profiling”. s/
That's the oldest trick in the book for criminals of Spanish descent. They converse and write fluently in English until charged and then "no habla Ingles" once they hit the courthouse.
I know of one who wrote long letters to the presiding judge about how badly he needed an interpreter and how unfair it was that he was assigned an attorney who didn't speak Spanish.
Too bad for him that the judge realized that all the letters were in perfect English.
Nope, can't have racial profiling when checking out illegals. Who knows, they might be the Swedish Swim Team.
Good ole Livingston County.
I grew up about ten miles from there.
There always was a pretty significant presence of migrant workers, because there is quite a bit of agriculture in the area.
That’s a great way for police to get BP attention to illegals without being accused of turning everybody over to immigration. When the suspects only speak Spanish you call Border Patrol for “translation assistance.”
Ping!
Meanwhile, in Los Angeles, the cops have simply stopped enforcing any laws against the Sacred Undocumented.
Too bad for him that the judge realized that all the letters were in perfect English.

“I didn’t say I couldn’t read or write English, I just said I couldn’t speak English”.
He suddenly became Clarence Darrow when the cop gave him a ticket.
