I was reading his novel Cell the other day and I stopped reading it after all the subtle hits on conservatives. His stuff stopped being good 20 years ago.

Truth be told, I never liked Koontz as much as I liked King - when King was on.

King wrote some very good books in his youth, regardless of his politics. I loved The Stand, IT, and I think that the first book of the Dark Tower series was probably his finest work and might well be studied as a lesson in minimalism.

I think King’s writing started repeating itself some time ago, and his new stuff (ie the cell) is not as good as his older stuff.

I despise the man’s politics, but back in the day he really was quite the author.

My wife knew him in college. He'd pepper her with questions about her part-time job at the Bangor State Hospital.

She also remembered getting stoned with him and his gang and visiting some local haunted houses.

Stephen King has made a career from caricaturing small towners and Christians as reactionary lunatics and monsters.
