James O'Keefe Skips Breitbart For NPR Hit
TalkingPointsMemo.com ^ | March 9, 2011 | Benjy Sarlin

James O'Keefe, whose hidden camera outfit Project Veritas claimed another major scalp today with the resignation of NPR CEO Vivian Schiler, departed from his usual symbiotic relationship with conservative media guru Andrew Breitbart in releasing his latest project.

As Mediaite notes, some observers are questioning if this reveals fissures between the two. O'Keefe posted his famous ACORN videos to Breitbart's "Big Government" but gave news site The Daily Caller first crack at his latest video. Breitbart turned on O'Keefe in the press last year after a colleague of O'Keefe's revealed to the press that the conservative filmmaker was planning an elaborate prank in which he would lure a CNN reporter onto a boat with a hidden camera and attempt to seduce her.

"From what I've read about this script, though not executed, it is patently gross and offensive," Breitbart said in a statement at the time. "It's not his detractors to whom he also owes this public airing. It's to his legion of supporters."

Breitbart denied a split in an interview with Mediaite, however, saying "I've said all along that James needs to be an independent journalist. His ACORN videos weren't posted exclusively on Breitbart sites." He added, "The mainstream media uses me as a way to marginalize James ... and James as a means to marginalize me."

TPM put in a request for comment to O'Keefe, but has not yet heard back.

I also wondered why the video got posted on Daily Caller and not in one of Andrew Breitbart's websites like the ACORN videos.

It’s smart for both of them to be independent.

Good news is that:

1. Mr. Schiller lost his NPR job and his Aspen Institute job

2. The other NPR hack sucking up to the Muslim Brotherhood is on administrative leave and will most likely “resign” shortly

3. Mrs. Schiller lost her bonus and now her CEO gig

Am I correct in assuming TalkingPointsMemo.com is a leftist rag????

And if so, TPM is doing nothing more than trying to create controversy between two conservatives???

Leftwing smoke and mirrors designed to divert attention from the real story. Breitbart responded to this on Hugh Hewitt’s show yesterday:

HH: Andrew, how come James O’Keefe didn’t debut this blockbuster with you?

AB: Well, he didn’t debut his unions gone wild-New Jersey story with me, either. And there’s a strong reason for that. I see how the left behaves. I see how Media Matters and John Podesta behave. And they’ve tried to create a wedge between us to make the story not about the story, and what James was able to catch on NPR, but about James and Andrew, and how they work together. And the first response from Eric Boehlert and Media Matters was about, is Breitbart not working with O’Keefe? Well, I’ve certainly talked to him about it. I was certainly aware of what he did. I certainly gave him advice on how he should handle this. And it comports with my advice on ACORN. And that was ubiquity mattered. We could not break the ACORN story on a site called Biggovernment.com. It had to have ubiquity. So we went to Fox News, we went to every news organization possible, and we put it on YouTube. I told James, you put this on YouTube, not on proprietary Breitbart software, because you have to become legitimized as an independent reporter in order for this, your project, and your desires to change the media, and to report stories that the mainstream media won’t report. And so I stepped back, and I watched him break the story, and I come in so I don’t become the story, because this story’s too important to allow for it to be diverted into selectively edited video. And all the other propaganda points that you hear, or you know, or the attacks on me, why are you working with Breitbart, why is O’Keefe working with Breitbart, why is Breitbart working with O’Keefe? We needed this story to stand on its own.

I’m sorry but this is just tooooo silly. We have huge issues and problems right now in this country and why some conservative exposer didn’t give an “exclusive” to another conservative news outlet is NOT BREAKING NEWS.

Let’s keep our eye on the ball folks.

The quality of post replies is going down hill. Any post about O’keefe’s expose’s MUST include a pic of Hanna Giles in order to meet our standards.

Think battle....

It simply better to be spread out and compartmentalize so the left do not have one target to shoot at

...multiple independent units coming at the left at different angles is best ...

the Left will go after James O'Keefe over NPR ...

Breitbart took a hit with that Sherod thing... he refiting too get back in the fight...

Breitbart not in position to start taking shots if he was teamed with O'Keefe right now

Look at the Tea Party...it is so strong because it was not one group but a movement...

It the reason the Left wants to paint the Tea Party as one group driven by Palin or Beck or the Koch brothers or whoever...that makes it one target to take out

You know Super Heroes like James O’keefe lead such controversial existences. Just pick up any random graphic novel and you’ll see. If the left press finds any more fissures in the Conservative Movement, we’ll probably sweep the next elections with veto proof majorities (not that we’ll need them) in both Chambers, and 2/3 of the state legislatures.

That’s cool. I thought the two of them had a falling out I wasn’t aware of....which would’ve been a shame since they’re two of our side’s top a$$kickers.
