I am one of the few on this board that have been to Somalia (Naval service in the early 80s) but I join with those that say Somalia can burn.

I visited Berbera in the 1980s. Sat with a Chief as we let flies crawl over our face...If he could do it...I could do it.

A thought. Remember Truk Island in the South Pacific? A Japanese held island that was bypassed as WWII progresses northward. Navy ships that passed within range shelled it, B-24’s, on there way home from a raid and still carrying bombs, dropped them there.

I am one of the few who have sailed those waters. (1975, 40’ Trimaran sloop).

In those days the Singapore straits and Malacca Straits were where the pirates were and I sailed through there I was heavily armed (including LAW missiles).

In these days I think anyone sailing that route (Arabian Sea - Gulf of Aden) is irresponsible at best. For ‘round the world sailors traveling Mauritius- South Africa is the sensible course.
