DEVELOPING STORY: Four Americans aboard a yacht hijacked by Somali pirates have been killed, Fox News has confirmed. U.S. forces responded to gunfire aboard the yacht Quest at approximately 1 a.m. Tuesday, but discovered all four hostages had been shot by their captors. Despite attempts to save their lives, all four hostages died of their wounds. We express our deepest condolences for the innocent lives callously lost aboard the Quest, said Gen. James N. Mattis, U.S. Central Command Commander in a news release. Two pirates died during the confrontation and 13 were captured and detained, along with two pirates already in custody. U.S. forces also found the remains of two other pirates already dead aboard the vessel and believe a total of 19 pirates were involved in the hijacking. The yacht Quest was hijacked on Friday off the coast of Oman and U.S. forces had been closely monitoring the vessel.

What in the hell were those four doing in that area anyway?
You go play in deaths backyard, you take your chances......
Didn't they???
I was thinking of taking my granddaughters on a camping trip near the Mexican border.
What could go wrong?
DROP MOABS ON EVERY ONE IN SOMAILI.
DROP MOABS ON EVERY ONE IN SOMAILI.
Mike
Terrible to hear.
Pick four random ships in their harbor and reduce them to flinders at high noon, no warning, no comment, no apology.
Beyond horrible, it was inevitable. That’s why “to the shores of Tripoli” is in the Marine anthem. They will have to start killing them all.
“I was thinking of taking my granddaughters on a camping trip near the Mexican border. What could go wrong?”
Or send then to Aruba for fun and frolicking!
They might meet a nice boy?!?!?!
Missionaries go to a lot of dangerous places.
Powder..patch..ball FIRE!
They were christian missionaries—the muzzies probably found their bibles or they attempted to witness to them.
OR
The muzzies attempted rape and were rebuked—
13 “detained”...To be brought back here for miilion dollar civilian trials with high-priced defense attorneys, and then to be placed in the US prison system at a taxpayer cost of $40-50K a year each.
We have lost our minds. Our country is being run by lunatics.
Why were all of the pirates not killed ? What will they do with them now-bring them all to NY and try them, put them in a cushy jail cell? Maybe invite them to the WH to discuss their futures? This goes beyond the pale..
Sounds good to me!
I am one of the few on this board that have been to Somalia (Naval service in the early 80s) but I join with those that say Somalia can burn.
They were actually out in the Indian Ocean - these pirates range as far as 600 miles away from their nests.
But it doesn’t matter why the sailors were there. We cannot simply declare a part of the sea to be off-limits to all except Muslim pirates. Piracy can paralyze trade and entire economies, even if you don’t care about the human cost.
Also, the message must go out: mess with US citizens, get dead. But that’s not going to happen with this president. Somebody on another thread suggested putting out a false rumor that these people were SEIU members - that might have gotten his attention.
You are remembering Reagan and W, the great Osama will never do anything like that to fellow Muslims. (and incidentally Regan and W would pick the four biggest ships that were not hostaged and a few mansions on shore).
If we start treating the open sea like some pirate’s personal fiefdom and condemning Americans who sail the open sea as being stupid and wrong, think of what freedoms we give up
Where next to tell American sailors to avoid? Coasts of Central and South America? Coast of Asia? Java Sea? Carribbean?
We have lost our minds. Our country is being run by lunatics.
If they're convicted, they'll find life in a federal prison to be far better than Somalia.
Surely you know that C-in-C Maobama would never permit such a thing. He is probably working right now on his apology to the Somali innocents.
Why stop with the ships?
Distributing Bibles.
It's difficult imagining anything more dangerous in an islamist country/area.
Yep, if the Jeeps don't get them, the mountain bikes will.
You know, sometimes I’m tempted to think that we would be doing the world a favour if we just glassed the entirety of Somalia with large-warhead nukes, and were done with it.
We should be so lucky. We’ll probably just let them all go with a slap on the wrist. UN rules, donchaknow.
Color me skeptical and cynical, but I’m guessing that nobody will ever be told the exact circumstances of this incident for years — if at all.
Our enemies do not fear us.
ALLEN WEST 2012
Not really a big surprise is it?
*sigh*
Shouldn’t be vacationing in a place like that anyways
You know the answer to that.
“What in the hell were those four doing in that area anyway?

I too do not honestly understand their lack of common sense (brains).
They are like those who continue to travel to Mexico in spite of all the warnings Or: No, dont put you hand on that hot stove and they do it anyway.
One article I read is that they were distributing Bibles or something religious.
Distributing religious things does not immune anybody from anything...only good sense saves lives.
Right. That was something that needed to be said.
That’s right.....kidnapping for these scumbags is a win/win.
“Why stop with the ships?”
Sometimes you show more power through restraint.
4 Americans murdered and now we have 13 animals that will be given rights of the dead Americans.
Disgusting
Didn't they???
Nope, per Fox they boarded and recaptured the yacht. The Somalis shot the hated evangelical hostages.
In many jurisdictions anyone involved in a criminal activity that results in a death is just as guilty of murder as the trigger man.
obama will be issuing an apology to the somali pirates for getting blood on their dirty nightshirts...then offer financial aid if they promise not to do it again....
They were part of a sailing race and had decided to make a side trip through the Indian Ocean. They sailed a lot and had sailed round the world a couple of times before that.
The couple always brought Bibles with them, not for distribution to the Islamic world, but to give to poor churches that they encountered when they stopped at port. They had been doing this for several years; it was a sailboat, so they probably didn’t have thousands of Bibles with them, but just a small number to distribute to these churches which are often too poor to buy their own for their congregations.
The Muslims captured them out on the seas and had no idea what they were doing. It just looked like an opportunity to make money. And now that they know we’re so weak, an American flag sure wouldn’t discourage them.
You need a larger boat so you can carry larger guns.
Lunatics. I think you have it. That explains what is going on in Washington.
How is this any different than allowing the TSA to grope your privates as a condition of being allowed to travel on an airplane? Better still, how the Feds are posting large parts of AZ as “off limits” due to drug traffic? I know, let’s just capitulate any time someone decides to take a piece of us. It’s safer don’t you know!
Well it was a good thing a warship was shadowing them. Imagine what would have happened if it wasn’t. /s

What Would Gen. Curtis LeMay Do?
Ah, blame the victim.
You’re missing the principle here. Why should ANY area of the seas be allowed to become a no-go zone because of Islamic pirates?
Jefferson had to deal with that over 200 years ago. The US was paying a fortune in ransom and travel in the Mediterranean was virtually paralyzed. Hence, the birth of the US Marines.
We can’t let this happen again. They have hundreds of people and dozens of ships in captivity. The average ransom is something like $9,000,000 for a tanker ship.
Why didn’t they board with guns blazing BEFORE the hostages were shot? At least then the folks may have had a chance. The warships trailed them a long time. And where were the Navy Seals? No, I will not blame the victims. This is an act of war by Somalia.
